As you say oldboy, it was a very decent performance. But dominate possession, absolutely not. Who is George kidding ? Eastbourne are a good team, likely play-off candidates and so are the Stones. No better, no worse. Nowhere near a competitive NL standard, but hey, no need to worry about that. I think George must have been basing his assessment on the final 20 minutes or so. For the first hour we were pretty poor. After their equaliser we started to show what we are capable of. Much better passing and keeping the ball. Having said that, even though we weren’t great to watch and didn’t impose ourselves on the game we still created the better chances in the first hour.

Unlike some games earlier in the season, I didn’t feel any nervousness we wouldn’t get something.
My feeling is the players now believe that to be the case.
A corner has been turned and a huge pressure has been lifted from everyone’s shoulders.

We completely turned the game around and were very good last 20-25. Thankfully proved me wrong

I think this black and white description of our playing style is too simplistic - we are neither just hoof-ball, or just pretty passing. And nor should we be - good football teams can do both - the trick is knowing which is the most appropriate at different points in the game. And that's one of the areas we have improved in. We pass the ball around very nicely at times, but if that's going nowhere and not getting the goals, we then try hoofing it forward. But I would argue that, as long as there's someone on the end of that, it isn't hoofing, it's a long pass! that was the strength of Hak's team in 21/22, we had a bit of everything great skill and pace, could go long when needed, play some great attacking football and still mix it with the most physical teams Not arguing with any of that, but I think you're missing what to me was the greatest strength - the team spirit and the belief they had in themselves. The combination of Corne, Barham and Fowler coming in, Luque returning from suspension, and Phillips finally getting regular starts over Gallagher, got us out of that early-season slump. And then the number of goals we were scoring created a team spirit that just took off. We started every game knowing we would score and thinking we would win. And this atmosphere also got journeymen/average players like Deacon, Pattison, Odusanya, and especially Binnom-Williams, playing their best. Not to forget the solid defence we had with Hadler, Hoyte, Elokobi, Brown and Ellul. And of course Booty in midfield. I don't credit Hak with creating or even nurturing that team spirit - he just wasn't a good enough man-manager to do that (as we saw the following season), but I'll certainly give him full credit for the players he brought in. And not just initially - it was the way he replaced the weaker players with really good signings that made that season, and ultimately got us the Championship. If only he could have done the same the next season...
