It's officially game week - the new season starts Saturday! Who's going??
St Albans always give us a good game and Shaun Jeffers loves to score against us it would seem, but I think we'll edge a narrow 2-1 win.
Starting XI of:
Andre Jnr Seaman - Eweka - Fowler - Brookes Higgs - Corne - Krasniqi Bentley - Coulthirst - Blair (4-3-3)
Wouldn't be surprised if we went 3-5-2 with attacking wing backs and Shaq / Blair up top as a two either. We will see!

A rare 1st game away for me - looking forward to it!
If we have to be away for the first game, St Albans is a good pick - nice ground, easy to get to, and a side that will give us a good game, with a fair chance of three points as well.
From what I've seen from the friendlies, we have players who can keep Jeffers quiet. We also have quite a bit of talent going forward. It will take a few games to settle down, of course, but I'm feeling pretty optimistic about this season.

I was all set to go armed with my debit card after last year's no cash accepted fiasco and then got my hospital admittance dates and that ended my plans. It's always tough at St Albans and I don't think this year will be any different. They are a top 5 club in my books so I would take an away draw for starters.

We will see! Only 3 players from last years FA Cup 5th and play off semi season in first game starting lineup still blows my mind..................with one of them (Bentley) a late joiner, so only 2 really if you exclude Reiss. In the old days this lot would have been billed as "The all-new Stones".............but those days are Long Gone. It now happens every year. It will take me a few "real" games to get used to it but I will get there.

Has someone hacked JDL’s account. 😂 Can I remind you that it was I who predicted a 4-0 win for the Stones every game (but one*) last season?!! (*the one I missed was the only one that actually ended up 4-0 - I predicted 4-1 because it was bloody Worthing!)

Based on what I've seen pre-season then I think this will be the line-up for Saturday:-
Andre Jr. Eweka Fowler Greenidge Seaman Corne Higgs Brookes Bentley Blair Coulthirst
Subs: Holden, Kyprianou, Krasniqi, Gurung, Andrade

My only doubt would be Greenidge, I've not been too impressed with him in the friendlies. But, even if he is a little out of form, it's still good to have someone of his size at the back. Having seen the quality of George's recruits this summer, I'm wondering how some of the retained players will fare with this level of competition. No doubts about Corne and Fowler, of course, and I think Kyprianou is well up to the challenge, but I wouldn't be surprised if Greenidge and Gurung find themselves on the bench more this season, and possibly Brown as well.

I do hope Kyprianou is up for the challenge, but we will see. I think it will depend on how many starts he gets as he could be a regular starter at many rival clubs.

Looking at the Whitehawk highlights was surprised to see how unhappy the players looked, even when we scored. Hope that is not a sign of the times. As for St Alban's, the prediction leaguers seem to favour at least a draw. Ok if we can keep Shaun Jeffers quiet, but he's often scored against us in the past - and pretty much everyone else. Wonder why he is not playing at a higher level.

Bookmakers have us as even money favourites with St Albans as 2/1 outsiders. I find that very generous odds for a side with an excellent home record. I have predicted a draw and if i backed it i would get 12/5.

How Shaun Jeffers is still at St Albans I have no idea - he's consistently scoring hat fulls and could be threatening a move away, yet last season he'd fallen out with the manager and wasn't playing regularly (yet still came on and scored against off). His 5th season with them. 84 goals in 131 games is unreal. Rare a player has that return and stays put.
