Looking at the Whitehawk highlights was surprised to see how unhappy the players looked, even when we scored. Hope that is not a sign of the times. As for St Alban's, the prediction leaguers seem to favour at least a draw. Ok if we can keep Shaun Jeffers quiet, but he's often scored against us in the past - and pretty much everyone else. Wonder why he is not playing at a higher level. How Shaun Jeffers is still at St Albans I have no idea - he's consistently scoring hat fulls and could be threatening a move away, yet last season he'd fallen out with the manager and wasn't playing regularly (yet still came on and scored against off). His 5th season with them. 84 goals in 131 games is unreal. Rare a player has that return and stays put. Fans I spoke to last season said he likes playing at that level/for that club and has no desire to risk going further. They also said the manager of the time (they've now got Noble back) didn't like/rate Jeffers and only ever brought him on late (as, if memory serves, he did in our away game - and the bastard scored and lost us the game!). So, with Noble back, presumably we're going to see a lot more of Jeffers. Unfortunately!

Smith gets his first league Start. Greenidge misses out cause of injury, Benton on the Bench and Corne is back in

I'd forgotten they play on 'our' colours! Very confusing!

Not exactly impressive so far- unless you judge a match by how few times your players cross the halfway line.
St Albans have a few talented players, but don't look that impressive - and yet we are spending almost all our time in our half, defending in depth. Although, we have at least done that quite well, with Andre only needing to make a couple of saves.
Lots of kick and rush, but not much of the actual rush bit. Balls fly up to the front - and mostly come straight back again. It was 15 minutes before we mustered an attack and 25 before we came close to scoring. They have a huge goalie who just picks the ball out of the air (plus one of the biggest defenders I've ever seen in Partington).
No Jeffers (so far), their number 14, Castiglione, is their main threat, constantly getting forward down the left. Although his final crosses have let him down. Curiously, we don't seem to be bothering to mark him at all. Seaman was mostly covering that area and didn't seem to be aware that Castiglione was even there. I was hoping for a lot from Seaman, but since he went off, Court has been more impressive.
Hopefully, George will get them playing more attacking football in the second half. But, from what we've seen do far, the combination of Coulthurst and Blair up the front isn't working too well.

Second half much better. But what really made the difference was the introduction of Benton (aka Kyprianou - according to the programme!). Without him it would have been a grinding 0-0.
Hopefully, this is just an early season game, with the team settling over the next few games. But Worthing and Dorking don't, apparently, need to 'settle'...
Still, it's a win, a first goal (and deserved) for Eweka, and revenge for last year's game.
And, talking of Jeffers - they brought him on very late and he did nothing.

Weird sitting on a train from St Albans and hearing the upcoming stations - including Strood, Rochester, Chatham and Rainham!
Wonderful thing, Thameslink. But, once again, the County Bloody Town misses out...

Lack of discussion on the board says everything: unexciting game with few highlights. 2nd half was much better but think we'll chalk that one up to players getting into the swing of things... Disappointed by the chanting at the St Albans medic. Boring. Big portion of adults whistling at a woman and chanting that she's fat. Take a look at yourselves.

It could be worse - I had them on my train home too!
