My memory must be shot to pieces. My recollection of how Terry Casey was criticising the Council s few years back, for not supporting the club and putting its future at risk, for delaying the sell off of the riverside land for very little, in order for the club to develop this much needed infrastructure improvement. So what was that all about ? Talk about smoke and mirrors. That was a lifetime ago and the article was likely to pressure the council to sell rather than lease the land to the club. That was around the time were the flying up the National League and the owners naively thought the FL was the next step. They’ve clearly moved from growing the club to holding the tiller until an investor can take up the fight.

Would like to see a little of the cup money spent moving the fence back and creating hard standing.
It’s our land. Let’s claim it, even if we are not doing much with it at the moment.

Not much use without some terracing, though - at least a few basic concrete or steel steps. We watched the Stevenage Cup game from there (the first one), and my daughter, who is only 5'2"ish couldn't see anything below head height!

If we had the land and another cup run, you could consider temporary seating or terracing for the duration.
Or better still, use some of the cup money to buy even more land on that side.
As the old saying goes, land is the one thing they’re not making any more of. And nobody else would have any use for it.

There is no more land on that side to acquire.

I think Oliver has made things pretty clear by saying nothing will be built on the riverside until Mr Megamoney arrives at the club and that does not look like happening soon so you all better get used to the fact. The owners do not have the money to take the club to the EFL if they did they would not laying a new 3G pitch which we know would have to be ripped up again. As for another cup run then you just know that we will be knocked out in qualifying round next year by Nobody FC.

Some elevation on the riverside would provide better views. I know Oliver points out it wouldn’t increase capacity, but would offer a better experience to the fans that attend and don’t want to cram into the Genco to see the pitch.
Moving the fence back could offer additional options, perhaps terracing similar to what we have in the town end. It could sit either side of the new gantry.
A more ambitious idea would be adding seats (I know I am dreaming), especially on the riverside, to boost season ticket sales and accommodate families who want to sit together. I worry we’ve taken the view that the gaps in the main stand mean there is no demand, but there are limited groups of seats to accommodate families.

These are all good ideas but they are looking to sell some or all of the club. They won’t be spending money in things not deemed essential.

Yup, and when I decided to sit in the main stand for the Barrow game, I got there early, got some tickets for the stand only to have some old prick tell me its his seat. When I said I have the seat number in my hand he said he had it too. I asked to see, he shows me a different number but says he sat there for years. Maybe the dumb arse couldn't read his numbers or something because he thought number 85 was 83. He then tells me to f**k off and a nice guy in the row below said we could sit next to him. If he had sat there for years, he would have changed his seat number to that seat so it was obvious he was a liar as well as stupid.

Just had a look at the ground using google satellite view.
I agree that there are no simple solutions but the easiest (& probably cheapest) would be to make the Town End into the visitor section. It already has turnstiles/exits, catering & toilets. The only issue would be that the Club Shop would need to be relocated. Just needs some suitable fencing. This would only need to be used for a few games per season & would otherwise be open to all.
The Genco would now be fully available as the Home End.
I agree that some simple cover on the River side would be good.
Now we have the new TV gantry then maybe the Manchett Stand could be extended to provide more seating?

Quick bit of checking that said old chap wasn't my dad but not only does he sit in a differently numbered seat, but I've never ever ever heard him tell anyone to f**k off My two penn'orth on the riverside. Working on the basis that when building a seated stand the groundworks and terracing gets done first, why not do that and have four or five tiered rows of terracing that seats can subsequently be fitted to and then a roof over the top? This way you get a better fan experience due to a better view with phased costs towards ultimately having a covered stand. True it may not affect capacity, but what it does do is make the experience more attractive and therefore increase the likelihood of repeated initial attendance that then becomes the addiction/dependence that so many of us now have.
