So, the Stones are to launch a lotto to try and raise some funds towards the laying of a new 3G pitch next summer. Upwards of £250K is the cost.
The usual “Ash out” crowd are already criticising, some fairly thoughtfully and some without much substance.
What do people make of it? It’s hardly a surprise expense? I was always to assume it was budgeted for and even covered by the use throughout the year.
Do we think this is a sign that the club is not on as sound footings as we had hoped?
Are the owners simply unwilling to underwrite the loan that they would have done before? Perhaps because they don’t see themselves in the seat in 12 months time?
Is it right to be using the lotto scheme?
Thoughts?

Pretty much the same. More questions than answers.

When we laid the 3 G we were the only club to have one therefore all the business came to us now every bugger has one so we must be fighting for customers plus the hiring of the pitch is extortionately priced and with the current cost of living crisis people just don't have the money. As for the owners not being here in 12 months well I think they are in a deep hole, they want out but nobody wants in and that situation will remain unless they accept a huge loss on their investment.

And the way some of the Facebook "supporters "keep accusing good people without reason of anything carry on i wouldn't blame Oliver and Terry for giving up and applying for planning permission and building flats on the site. If you don't want to play the pitch lottery don't buy a ticket

Is this much different from asking players to contribute to the Genco stand how ever many years ago it was? Using a lotto is at least giving the opportunity to win something back.

Loyalty/donation schemes sound good - let's all work together to help/save/build our club, etc - but they rarely work. The amount typically raised is peanuts compared to the actual cost. But loto schemes (and similar) can raise a lot more money because people who aren't committed enough to just donate will play - because there's an incentive beyond the lofty aims of the usual 'stand up for the Stones' type of scheme. I think that's all there is to this - just a way of raising money in straightened times.

Let’s just help out, Jesus it’s not asking us to pay millions just a few quid here and there and you might win something.

Supporters support the financial needs of clubs in so many ways. If you don't want to support the Stones 3G funding then don't. Simple enough.

I have no problems with a lottery as long as its reasonably priced. Any help towards the cost is a bonus alas I cannot see it raising the full amount, I hope the owners know that.I regularly bought golden goals tickets and the other draw they did for a while so I'll definitely have a punt.

I’ve been in the Stones prize draw competition since - well, I can’t remember when it started, it’s so long ago. But win something back? I reckon my return must be worse than Sword’s against his bookmakers!

Ridiculous to read of complaints about the owners raising money for a good cause ((MUFC). Lottery idea is fine with me. Bring it on !

Mind boggling the owners didn't budget for the club's major revenue stream or is there something else we're not being told...
