It has been disappointing that JS2 and HH haven't been able to improve performances. Whatever Hakan claims, the team seems no better and probably no worse than at other times over the season. Arguably the best performances were over the mini month that Simon and Tristan took charge, nothing brilliant, but we have not seen better since. We have seen clear outs following clear outs of players and the answer for next season seems to be more of the same, another major clear out. But in truth, there is no other choice because we are where we are and it is not where we want to be. So we have to have faith and support John and Hakan. Expectations will be high amongst supporters and rightly so in my view. The dynamic duo have not been appointed to stablilise the club as a mid table team in the NLS. A play-off place must be an essential target for the club, anything less will constitute failure imo. I think most people have faith in HH and JS2... expectations of long-term fans will be realistic. For the newer fans this season has hopefully been a bit of a reality check.

I keep reading that we need a few years in the NLS before we come back up, but why? Serious question. I can only think it’s to either save loads of money to put in a pot to spend on players upon eventual promotion back or to develop the ground. The issue here is the ground is fine for the National league and putting a new stand in will not draw loads of new fans and expand the club’s income! The NL player wages are so high these days we could never save enough to challenge for promotion to the league and can’t go up with our owners or business plan anyway. The other thing is the way the club is run off the pitch, but we now have scouts and a goalkeeper coach along with day time training. I believe we are a yo-yo club and will be unless we receive huge investment or new owners. So unless I am missing something immediate promotion first time of trying will be no more or less challenging than in two or three years. Any squad built in the NLS will surely struggle if it went up and would therefor need to change upon promotion as the gap between the leagues is so great. We can only hope that the financial circus which the NL currently is will at some point come back down to reality and become a more even playing field, but that is just wishful thinking!

I think you might be right Nick, so far fans seem to have taken relegation fairly well with little ill feeling, an to a degree sympathy for Mr Still an HH however at the start of next season I do not think that will last longer than 4-6 weeks,by then knifes will be out an heads will be expected to roll, then we start the circus all over again. I dont think the owners will allow them a lot of time to try an get results like they did with Saunders those days have gone. Time will tell but I dont think we have seen the end of the good old revolving door at the stadium.

The stability we had with Jay was what made us different and successful.

The stability we had with Jay was what made us different and successful. Wow! Spot on post ! That’s what I mean by Jays departure and the Clowns reign having ripped the heart out of the club. Trouble is JS2 is only around for one season so HH will really have to reveal his up until now hidden depths for us to have that stability and heart back again with him. If not we could have a mid table NLS season and a new face the season after. Only time will tell.

Some already do, some never will.
Personally I think of the three seasons we've had in the National League as a bonus and not a right.

Meanwhile, back in the real world:
Depends on your definition of "we".
John Still has been, to my mind, specific that he is using his scouting network for the benefit of his current employer. This will be the same network that was scouting for Barnet at the turn of the year. Setting up and funding a, apparently much needed, scouting network for Maidstone United will take time and money.
Similarly as I understand it we are in the same position with a goalkeeping coach as we were with Jay Saunders at the start of the season. Our "first choice goalkeeper" is also the goalkeeping coach.
It's clear that the first team support infrastructure was not appropriate for a successful National League side and it will take time and resources to put that in place.
When Burnley got relegated under Sean Dyche from the Premier League they invested their parachute payments mostly into the infrastructure and not into players attempting to get back into the Premier League fit to stay there. We haven't got the parachute payments.
As for "receive huge investment or new owners". What will new owners change that isn't 'huge investment'? Please explain why anyone other than the much derided on here and elsewhere "sugar daddy" owner would "invest" because I can't see where their financial return comes from.

Offer Paul Doswell the opportunity to put his money into MUFC as our new Head Coach reporting to JS2 with HH as his assistant?
Why not? we seem to like having a lot of coaches..........against Sutton we had five..............JS2, HH, SW, CL and someone called Anwar Uddin? When did he sneak in???
