Our midfield last night surprised me and I wondered if it was a farewell appearance for them. Certainly can't really see Reason, Prestege or Paxman being around next year. Strange as it may seem Daveu but I thought the same maybe as he may not beng a touch sentimental and letting a fair few of them having a farewell appearance as he may not be able to get them all included in Saturday,s game.

Felt a tad sorry for the young keeper Tommy Taylor, he,s made a few apperances in this tournament in the early stages against Tonbridge etc. yet when they get to the medals he,s dropped for Worgan must seem like a kick in the teeth for the lad.

Paxman just doesn't seem to have fulfilled his potential. Reason has been mediocre and is simply too slow. Prestedge was a man for the moment last year and I think that he was the biggest reason we turned a corner and survived. If I pick one game out for Prestedge it was an almost faultless performance in the 3-2 win at Dagenham when, 10 yards from our box, he simply nicked the ball away from their feet and fed it to a Stones player, time and time again.

Unable to attend, but reading the various comments and reports, the game sounds like the story of our season. Not able to convert chances when on top. In a game like that, it should not be a confidence thing, which only confirms what we know already - just not good enough in front of goal and likewise attacking midfield. Those chosen for Saturday have much to play for, but in many ways, it doesn't matter. The season tells it's own story. Only four games won by more than a single goal and only one (Sutton away) against anyone of note. Woking and Chester (3-1) plus 4-0 at Torquay. Our home form has to improve next season. Away games clearly have a spirit about them with a camaraderie amongst those who make the sacrifices to travel. But home games? A chance to meet up with mates and have a beer, but what about the football? Too many wins and draws thrown away for the want of the odd goal and a poor atmosphere as a result. The crowd do their bit, but so often being the nearly men at home eventually becomes no fun. And it should be fun, shouldn't it? Yes, Maidstone till I die and all the hair shirt stuff about where we've come from. I buy into all of that, but please - can we at least finish the season on a high and build something more exciting that will bring in more spectators and get them excited next season? You are only as good as your last game and a cracker on Saturday would go a long way towards erasing the memories of a dour season at the Gallagher. Macclesfield away? Cheltenham away

No, he made ONE appearance all season - against Tonbridge - and hasn't played since, hardly "getting dropped for Worgan" is it?

But the majority of blubs always play there 2nd string keepers in cup matches, and morally that,s maybe what we should of done, hardly makes the guy feel wanted does it.

I wouldn’t trust TT even in the KSC. Not good enough.

The club and Kent FA seem to think that was our 19th KSC win but I think it was our 17th. Anyone bothered enough to know the answer?

JDL thinks it's the 17th. I was going to count up the wins in the programme, but couldn't be arsed. In fact I didn't read the programme at all, so uninteresting.

Not only uninteresting but contained the classic line "today's finalists Dartford". You'd think they'd know who was featuring in their own showpiece final. There are 16 previous wins for Stones listed in the programme but between 1894/7 it was awarded to the Kent League winners, so if we won it a couple of times in that period it would make it right.

An excellent read, and so is his blog (reminisce) on Molehill Copse Primary school if you happened to go there in the 1960s as I did.

Took me a while to get round to it, but this is a really good read - well written as well as fascinating. And a very fresh insight into Jim Thompson. Would make an excellent intro to Fred's book.

No, morally the manager is contracted to win competitions, and if playing the best goalkeeper we have is the way to achieve any success then he done the right thing. Taylor was no where good enough in that one appearance, so why would the manager think it was "morally correct" to put our only chance of silverware at risk to spare the feelings of one player and a few supporters?
