Bloody hell we win a final and most of the crowd fucked off before we even lifted the cup! I don't normally moan about people leaving early, but it's not asking much for people to wait around an extra 10 minutes. Most people have to work tomorrow. Indeed. I'm currently sitting on the 0422 from Higham to London Bridge (train that is)

Awful game but still glad I went along to see us win the Cup. Felt rather sorry for Folkestone, a brave effort from them and an awful way for them to lose. I also thought it was a shame so many people dashed off rather than see the trophy presented. Seems rather disrespectful to the team we are supposed to support (regardless of how badly they played). Personally I got down to the touchline at the Genco end so I could touch the trophy when it was brought over, which I did. You don't tend to get to do that supporting a big team Funniest moment of the night? their spectator keeper being awarded the man of the match award. The only time he was called in to action was to save 4 Maidstone penalties, and personally I didn't think that went too well for him! There keeper deserved the accolade he had a very good game, i was going to say something about the support tonight but the crap that was going on between the 2 sets of supporters was at best cringeworthy, we have never had an issue with Folkestone and prior to the start of the game I was disappointed it was segregated however it was the correct decision, grown men encouraging younger supporters to goad the away supporters has absolutely no place within this club, I saw some supposed super supporters or those purporting to be acting like bloody idiots, you know who you are and you you should be ashamed However back to the game, we huffed and puffed but couldn’t find a wat through, Coker had a few good chances but couldn’t finish them off, thank good it’s the end of the season I need a rest before we go again next season Name an shame these idiots Toon, thats the only way the club has a chance of at least trying to stop this stupid, mindless behaviour that has suddenly found a place within this little club. We dont want it and we certainly dont need it here.

Delighted to win another trophy but at times we were overun which sums up why we have struggled this season. I think Jays will have a big sort out this summer.

I don't normally moan about people leaving early, but it's not asking much for people to wait around an extra 10 minutes. Bugger that. I was up at 4am yesterday and today to do a twelve hour working day. We moan when people leave early, then moan when they don't stay behind after a game.

Unable to attend, but reading the various comments and reports, the game sounds like the story of our season. Not able to convert chances when on top. In a game like that, it should not be a confidence thing, which only confirms what we know already - just not good enough in front of goal and likewise attacking midfield. Those chosen for Saturday have much to play for, but in many ways, it doesn't matter. The season tells it's own story. Only four games won by more than a single goal and only one (Sutton away) against anyone of note. Woking and Chester (3-1) plus 4-0 at Torquay. Our home form has to improve next season. Away games clearly have a spirit about them with a camaraderie amongst those who make the sacrifices to travel. But home games? A chance to meet up with mates and have a beer, but what about the football? Too many wins and draws thrown away for the want of the odd goal and a poor atmosphere as a result. The crowd do their bit, but so often being the nearly men at home eventually becomes no fun. And it should be fun, shouldn't it? Yes, Maidstone till I die and all the hair shirt stuff about where we've come from. I buy into all of that, but please - can we at least finish the season on a high and build something more exciting that will bring in more spectators and get them excited next season? You are only as good as your last game and a cracker on Saturday would go a long way towards erasing the memories of a dour season at the Gallagher.

One final thought on that awful dirge of a game. Winners write the history. We won, so we didn't play that badly. Well, the game I saw was (as others have said) totally typical of our season - we were clearly the better team, but we huffed and puffed and achieved very little. We couldn't convert any of our chances, and we were as leaky as usual at the back/in the middle (a better team would have punished us), and, worst of all for me, the players just didn't seem up for it.
Ultimately we won because we were a full-time NL side playing a Sticky League side who are on a bit of a crap run lately. The gap between the abilities of the players was just too much. And, of course, their penalty taking was beyond a joke. We basically got that trophy because our experienced, more talented players can score penalties better than their part-timers.
They could have saved us all a lot of time and hassle by just having the penalty shoot-out.

And one more final thought! I didn't notice Paxman amongst the players picking up their medals, Just my eyes, or did he go home early? Failing an appearance Saturday, that might be the last we see of him, Sadly,
Until, of course, he returns in two years time with a visiting team and scores a hat-trick against us...

You didn't miss anything. Stones dropped 2 levels of performance overall in a disappointing display. Midfield with Prestedge and Reason just seemed so slow and cumbersome. Jack Paxman easily our best player was subbed in second half and replaced by Phillips who was pretty anonymous on the night. Another below par effort from Loza. Decent enough efforts up front by Wraight and Coker but nothing special. Defence sound enough but thought Seth had a mare. But at least we knew how to take penalties ! Really Paxman our best player?? The guy who in my mind needed to show something ala his performance against Gillingham in this very competition, was poor, ok all three of our centre mids were poor, but Paxman was having the game pass him by putting everyone else under pressure, the amount of times he was 10+ yards the wrong side of his man when we were defending, Wraight and Coker were both deeper than him numerous times as Pax does not have the ability to read the game and no idea about positional play, yeah he's good when the ball is at his feet but even then he's prone to running into dead ends or falling over himself and giving away possession. The incident when he runs towards finney demanding the ball then switches off when it's played to him meaning we lose possession 25yards from goal is something he does far too often. I think in national south pax could be a very good player, but think that national is a step to high for him, as i said with the ball at his feet he can be creative but he doesn't have that ability to read the game and needs too many touches for the level we are currently playing, as was highlighted a number of times yesterday. Agreed. He only shone against Gillingham because they were a reserve/youth side (Oldaker for example is now on loan at Hythe and doing well there)who gave him far too much space to work in. Against everyone else he was closed down more quickly and dispossessed (when he wasn't giving the ball away). The big disappointment yesterday was Coker. He has skill, but was greedy, at no time when approaching the penalty area did he look up to see if he had a teammate in a better position, so a number of chances were squandered. Then in the second half, he clearly forgot how offside works, to such an extent that Jay apparently lost his cool and dragged him off. The lesser disappointment was Wraight, I had high hopes for him in this match, but as ever this season, the midfield couldn't create any chances for him, so he had a frustrating time a la DSY. But at least Ter Horst didn't come and rain on our parade, as we might have expected the Fates to arrange! I ended up voting for Turgott, who at least livened up our forward play for a while.

I know I’ve mentioned it elsewhere, but l think this site is really worth reading. And not just because it features one of my photos! bit.ly/2HUdPLZ. This is why the final is important to us. A Very good hstorical read- 'The occasion was the KSC final. These were the days when the county cup was normally regarded as the most important trophy most clubs could aspire to win, and Maidstone always took it so seriously that we won it sixteen times, still far more than anyone else.'I used to go the the Athletic Ground in the mid-80's when my In-Laws moved to a town called 'Maidstone' that for us was a journey and picnic away from Bexleyheath! The cars i owned in those days were not used to long journeys without failure!! However, we went to the Athletic ground for dog-racing. One of the 'Stoneslive' Team used to go there with his brother- but neither can remember it. Nick Morgan would have been about 5 and his brother Justin - about 2. Liam Morgan didnt come along till '99, so was too late for any memories of it!

The complete 'quote' was something like "thanks for the last three years it was fun". He was well 'cheesed off' at Solihull before the game, no doubt in my mind that he's off.

Our midfield last night surprised me and I wondered if it was a farewell appearance for them. Certainly can't really see Reason, Prestege or Paxman being around next year.
