Lewis does run around like an excited puppy and the ball does sometimes ping off him and end up at the feet of the other team, however if you just take a moment to watch Reason off the ball he lumbers around offering nothing! When he has the ball he may find a sideways pass, but for me a midfielder needs more to his game at this level. I don’t think Lewis is integral to our team, but his effort levels as well as being Captain will always get him on the team sheet. Phillips looks like a good mixture of the players we have had over the last few seasons in the middle. He covers the ground like Lewis, tackles hard like Rogers and has silly hair like Brown 😬
If I remember Guiseley I believe they are a tall strong team. Don’t think we will match them in the air so maybe we should leave out the Big boys like Lafeyett and DSY and use players who can run at them like Paxman, Coker and maybe Richards. If we do try something new at least Jay has tried, if I see DSY and Reason on that team sheet again Saturday I will not put myself through the Stones live commantery, I will just be checking twitter occasionally! Let’s hope we play like a team that wants to stay up for the whole game rather then one that is already down! COYS

In addition, I think Reason has been like a rabbit in the headlights for the last few weeks and can't wait to get rid of the ball. Phillips has been a great addition to the squad and I think we'll see a lot more from him up to the end of the season, and next year if we can keep hold of him. I would also like to see Luer given a run in the side. Much as I like DSY's hold up play and generally think we look a better side with him, we need a striker who can score goals and that clearly isn't him or Lafayette, so give Luer a chance to see what he can do. Agree Coker should be given a start if fit and would probably go for something like this: Worgs Seth, Winter, Hare, Finney, Anderson Phillips, Lewis, Richards Luer, Coker Although that may leave us a bit light defensively in midfield.

I would say Lewis and Phillips would be enough of a defence in midfield. Phillips after all is described as a defensive midfielder.
I like the idea of Richards in there. He will be full of running both at their defence and towards them when we don’t have the ball.
Question is will Jay break with his recent solection and try new things!? We don’t have a proven formation or team that have beaten Guiseley so fingers crossed 🤞🏼

On the subject of passion and/or ability - the ideal would be a player with both. And that player was Flish.
To my mind, the genesis of the position we're in now was when we let him and Mills go.
I know many won't agree with this, purely on their assessment of whether both players were good enough for NL football. But I would simply reply - how much better have their replacements turned out to be?
For me, letting those two go was a turning point for the club. We lost two excellent players, but at the same time we lost the last of the old players who had been with us all the way through, we lost the last of the truly local players, we lost the last players who had come up through the academy, and we showed ourselves to be a different sort of club, the sort where money and (apparent) success is valued more than loyalty, roots, community connection, etc.
But most of all, we lost two talented players, one who would always put in a shift and improved at every level we reached, and one who could change games - and both of whom played for the club and not their careers.
(And, yes, I am aware that Flish has been out injured almost since he left us!)

Seem to remember both players left because they couldn't do the daytime training. Otherwise, can only agree. Paxman always puts a shift in, but gives the ball away too easily. As for Lewis, he wasn't in the game much v Hartlepool, because the ball was in the air half the time. However, as a very mobile player, he will usually find a way and every team needs someone like him, prepared, as he has said himself, to do box to box the whole game. Noticed that our last two goals have come from corners - albeit rather indirectly, but when we have the likes of Anderson and Reason taking free kicks, it shows we are really lacking a dead ball specialist.

'letting these two go' ? Hardly, Jay wanted them to stay and they were both offered new contracts. The fact is Millsy and Flish did not want to commit to a National League level of commitment. To be honest I can't imagine our season would have been any different if they had stayed. But time for Jay to ring the changes for Saturday. Interesting that supporters on the forum seem pretty united on what needs to happen. Can we all be wrong ?

Time may tell whether that's true or not on this issue.

Thinking about some of the games we started to improve in recently has Jay over thinked our set up. Away against Boringwood we wanted to stem the flow of goals following our 4-0 drubbing at home. We set up with 5 at the back, a centre half in the defensive midfield role and two Big lads up front! We had no scoring threat and as soon as we went 1-0 down the game was pretty much lost. Is the answer to not over analyse the opposition and just put out the best 11 you have in their preferred positions!?? Jay often states he has had the teams watched prior to a match.
Also has Jay considered standing high up in the main stand during a game and directing Nicky to make changes on the bench? Or put Nicky up high to get a better view of the game! What I have noticed since the new stand has been built is how much more of the game you can take in from up high. Being at ground level you just don’t see as much of what players off the ball are doing! Let’s be honest Jay will not be missed on the side of the pitch during a game as he is like a statue! Just a thought as to why we all see the need for changes long before they are made 🤔

He didn't achieve that without 'understanding' what was happening on the pitch.
To suggest that he needs a better view is a little simplistic?

It works in rugby where the coach sits high and radios down instructions! Just a thought. I expect it will never happen. You never know he may enjoy seeing the game from high up, I know I prefer it 😬

To be fair, I think a draw for Stones will be a good enough result on the day 3 points and we can forget the dreaded R word for another season. 0 points, well that's a different matter - time for melt-down on the forum !
