It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall during Nicky and Jay’s tactic talk for D&R.
We start at the back with four. This appears to have been forced by the injury to De Havilland. But let’s think about that, did we need to go with Four or could we have used Hare as the 3rd in a back 3? He played CB against Gills and for the first few games before Wynter won favour. That would have left Seth to play wing back.
In the middle we play 3 defensive midfielders, Lewis as captain a dead sert to start, Phillips earning a start and deservedly so, but then Reason yet again plays and offers nothing. This game last season we played Paxman with Lewis and Prestedge. So one attacking threat and two ball winners.
So up front we play the “target Man” and two wide men in DSY and Turgott. Since we lost Pigott and Hines this formation has “NOT” worked.
With the lack of width Anderson was completely over run as Turgott did not provide any real cover. Being one of our only attacking threats we needed him some where near their half.
So to summarise we play a defence system proven time and again to leak goals.
We play a midfield with no attacking option and no width, proven to hit and miss depending on personnel.
Finally we play a front three with about that many goals between them.
Jay has bundles of options to at least try in Richards, Wraight etc..
If they don’t work then at least he has tried, but at the moment he continues to hammer that square peg in the proverbial round hole in the vain attempt that at some point the edges give way and we win.
I believe from what I have heard we are a mid table prospect in this league with our budget etc.. this is down to the hard work of Jay, the owners, the players past and present and us the fans who pay the money and sing the songs.
I think there needs to be a significant change in the summer, my heart wants Jay to stay and the playing staff be culled.
If Jay goes which is very unlikely I still believe a change in players is a must. Look at Macclesfield who have no money and a tiny squad.
Going down will not be a bad thing for the owners, let’s be honest the club makes loads more money from us drinking beer on the pitch side, but I quite like playing the likes of Tranmere over Bogna!
Although as the old guard will say it’s better to play Bogna then have no team at all.
So as one of 2,500 managers/tacticians on the terraces I will take my place at the ramaining games and pass judgement on Jay and the team with a few pints of lager in my stomach and dreams of imminent success whilst singing along with some truly inventive chants and threatening serious violence towards some of the worst referees to ever don a whistle and black shirt.
COYS..
