Wow that was hard fought. Saw 3 of the 4 sides of Maidstone United tonight.
1st 25, played well, dominated, created chances.
Next 40 played a bit like early season. Went long, misplaced passes, wrong choice.
Last 30 mins we showed determination and got the job done by hook or by crook.
Luckily we didn’t see the Truro, Worthing, Hampton away Stones at all,
Thought the subs were well made and timed.
They made it very hard. The looked very dangerous just after our equaliser and they might regret trying to shithouse from so early on. Not a dirty side, just moaning, diving and generally annoying. Can’t blame them though. Still think they’ll regret not attacking us more, but we were still in chasing the game mode.
Everyone played well. Faal was very good off the bench. Tanga faded a bit although their 3 players him well in the end.

Typical Faal goal! The ball went in so slowly that everyone was up and cheering the goal before it had even crossed the line!

A decent performance. Hard to think of many opportunities we gave them, and scored from a flukey cross.
Had to remain patient at times with of their 10 players behind the ball and time wasting from the 30th minute (come on now). Their keeper had a blinder in the first half and they’re a physical side who play for the marginal gains in that respect - thought they were a disciplined side and all credit to them.
Motm was Raphe, really solid tonight but to a man thought we played well.
Onto worthing

A strange goal. The angle Mo scuffed it was great, right into the corner. It seemed to take ages to find the back of the net. Their keeper was rooted to the spot. Maybe it was a mis-kick but nobody cares. Tbf I was standing by the changing rooms and got a perfect view. Mo passed it into the far corner of the goal, simply out of reach of Aveley's keeper.

Typical game of two halves - or rather two quarters and a half.
Although they pressed from the off, we should have had two or more goals in the first 20 minutes. But a combination of a cracking keeper and some very 'street-wise' (ie dirty) play (and a shit ref) kept us from actually scoring.
Then we went into our old pass it sideways, pass it backwards, occasionally lump it forward to no one in particular, mode. I had hoped that was a thing of the past, but alas not.
But a half-time sub and a George bollocking did the trick, and the second half was ours. Their gameplan seemed to be to force the game into extra time - and they got what they deserved.
A very difficult game and a very well deserved win. Now all we have to worry about is bloody Worthing - that will be our Cup Final, I'm pretty sure whoever wins that, will go up.

Jonathan North has always been a good keeper, used to play for Wealdstone. Aveley were a very niggly side and how the 7 didn’t get booked I’ll never understand. Decent overall performance by The Stones although Kyprianou was bloody frustrating as he didn’t want to take the defender on and get a cross in. On another day we could have been three up before they scored and apart from the goal I only remember Lucas making one more save. Karma was served in the end as all their time wasting allowed us to score the winner in added time.

Also said the same about the injury time winner in the time they created! We called it before it happened in fact

I can see us only getting 400 tickets for the game on Sunday, so theres going to be a lot of disappointed fans who want to go.

Hats off to the Genco boys. Brilliant tonight ! From the Town End, people were wondering why they were so quiet in the period leading up to the winning goal.

Looks like many will have to rely on National League TV to see the next game. Stoneslive commentary was very good, doing their best to be fair to both sides, with the usual caveats of course. TV streaming less so, with the picture blurring and freezing at times, but for anyone unable to make the game it is the only option. Other means also now needed just to find out when games are on. BBC sport has long been my go to for fixtures, but the website only covers National League and above now - with pointless screen space taken up with club badges. No idea what that is about. Anyway, pleased to see the Worthing game is Sunday, which works for me, as indeed will the final, if we get there, on May Day. Guess it is also a case of Come on Braintree this Saturday. A home final (Worthing nothwithstanding), would make a great end to the season - were we to win... ...National League suddenly not seeming quite so bad a prospect? My own jury still out on that, but enjoying the ride.

Did the dates change? I had different days written on my calendar, and I'm (reasonably) sure I didn't make them up!
