Was that post in the right thread? Anyway, Johann Ter Horst scored two late goals for Lydd; he is on double registration with them and Ashford.

Joe Quigley, now at Chesterfield, seems to be scoring goals. He was pretty hopeless with but still fairly young at the time, I think. Any news on how Reagan Booty is doing now?

There's a video of a Gateshead game on one of the other threads (Vs Kidderminster, I think?) and he looks very good - even scored a goal. Looks totally at home in a successful NL side - just the sort of player you'd want to have in your team...

Quigley looks unrecognisable from the tub of lard who played for us. He must have been totally unfit when we signed him & seemingly no effort was made to get him fit.

Regan Booty 7or 8/10 every week in NLP A class act. I still wonder what we could have achieved with a class DCM, Booty, a fit Luque and Corne and Barham. Admittedly the defence was struggling but with a good midfield in front of them, i think we might have stayed up.

Look back at that team and you wonder just how we went down.

Strange really, Fowler and Bone nominally same as last year in central defence, Chi and Jerome similar players on one side (albeit very different sizes!) then Hoyte on the other, with the one whose name I forget currently doing ok there. Nominally then, just a new keeper, with a (fairly) settled back four able to deputise for each other. However, the NLP is certainly full of bigger, faster and more clever players, so if we do go back would still have little confidence in an MLS squad doing much at the higher level. Indeed, still think it is a complete poison chalice of a promotion - zero sponsorship, zero parachute payments, but a shitload of money required from somewhere to stay there.

We didn't have a good enough keeper other than Sandford for a month, a defence that leaked over 100 goals and a load of midfielders and forwards who weren't good enough.......looking at the squad its easy to see why we went down. It says it all really that only 4 of that squad are still playing at National League level....Booty, Barham, Galvin and Ghandour. In the case of Ghandour, I doubt he will even be playing at that level for much longer, hes played a grand total of 14 minutes for Aldershot this season.

More going on than simply a bad manager.

More going on than simply a bad manager. I think he just got lucky, and rode that luck. I was always puzzled by that team and manager combination - from what I saw and heard of Hak, I could never understand how he created that bond that they had and nurtured it - he clearly didn't have the personality, nor the psychological nous. But, having seen how he 'managed' the following season, I think it's quite clear that the Championship team created its own team spirit. My guess would be that it was built round a few positive personalities - Luque certainly, maybe George and others too? And then the success on the pitch created a positive feedback loop - the more they won, the more they believed in themselves, and the more they won. But, presumably, Hak thought it was his doing and he could do it again in the NL. But once things started to go wrong, he turned out to have no idea how to recreate the old team spirit or to motivate the players - and he certainly had no idea how to build a NL squad. His times at Braintree and Hamlet are far more indicative of Hak's abilities. Other than when working under John Still at Luton, his only success was to win the Isthmian North with Grays. How likely is it that he was suddenly able to create and nurture a NS Championship team?

Weren’t there two Joe Quigleys playing? Have you got the right one? Having said that, I thought our Quigley looked pretty good away to Dagenham….
