It's actually very rare for a club to be fined especially without receiving a warning first.

It looks like Darlington have had quite a bit of trouble with their supporters...

Darlington Football Club has come under fire in recent months after numerous reports of bad behaviour from fans at matches, including misogyny, pitch invading and spitting at an opposing team's goalkeeper. Now, CEO David Johnston has hit out at offenders in a stern statement.

This comes after the club was reported to the Football Association (FA) for the second time in just three months after Tuesday's match against Farsley Celtic FC. At one point during the game the referee had to stop play due to Quakers fans spitting and throwing items at Farsley's goalkeeper Max Dearnley.

In his statement Johnston said he was 'sick and tired of continuing misconduct' and that the actions of badly behaved fans meant the club was facing 'severe punishment' from the FA. This will be the second time that Darlington FC officials have had to face the governing body with one fan issued a ban after hurling sexist abuse at a female referee in January.

In the statement, the club's CEO said: "I must admit, that I am sick and tired of this continuing misconduct, which has resulted in the match referee reporting us to the FA, who in turn contacted us for our observations on Wednesday afternoon.

"We had a big issue at Scarborough in January, and after that incident, we requested spectators to be on their best behaviour at all Darlington matches, home and away."

He went on to say that this was 'a small number of supporters' and that most fans were 'responsible and fair-minded' people. The club is currently trying to identify those involved in the incidents that took place on Tuesday, but it warned that such behaviour has a negative impact on the club and how it's able to spend money on players.

Mr Johnston continued: "We have been charged by the FA for failing to control our supporters once already for the Scarborough incident, there is the likelihood that we will now be facing another charge with an equally severe punishment, if not worse.

"If we are fined, as looks likely, the money will come out of club funds which obviously impacts our future spending on players wages and fees. This idiotic behaviour has a direct impact on our playing budget, and it must stop now.

The club also noted that they would continue to consider bans to those who are found to be part of the disruption and expect a high standard of behaviour. Mr Johnston also said that incidents such as this would cause problems to sponsorships as local business do not want to be affiliated with the negative behaviour and publicity.

Gorleston fc of the Isthmian North, have moved in to ground share with Great Yarmouth fc at Wellesley Road. The East Anglian club were evicted from their Emerald park ground after 40 years with the owners refusing them a new lease. The Wellesley Rd ground is a quality little ground famous for having the oldest stand in English football and I've seen 6 games there😁
