KENT ONLINE 11TH OCTOBER 2019First-team coach Ryan Gordon adds another dimension to Maidstone's management team. Gordon, who's also head of football at the University of East London, boasts a masters degree in positive psychology and coaching psychology.
He's been nicknamed 'The Glue' by Maidstone captain George Elokobi, as the man who holds everything together. " Effectively, what I do is look at wellbeing and performance themes, such as emotional intelligence and team cohesion," said Gordon. "I look at strengths, focus coaching and use that working with the players. Football's changed, the players have changed. They want to know more about how they can have an impact intrinsically with their own motivation and how that works its way into the team. A lot of the stuff I do is on their perspective of the game, how to cope under pressure, because success demands pressure, and it's given them an understanding. I apply the softer skills maybe to have have little conversations they may need or feel they need. At the same time we've still got to achieve high levels of performance. A lot of things combine - their wellbeing, how they feel, how does that work in performance and then how does that work when you've got club goals and team goals.M It's funny because it's that bridge between players and management and staff. Sometimes when we drive and find things a bit tough, it's 'come on guys, keep going, keep pushing' and it just gives them another voice." Gordon, a Uefa-qualified coach, knows there's a balance to strike between tactics and the mental side of the game. Maybe George just decided that as manager, he can cover off all this stuff that Ryan apparently brings to the table. He does seem like an expensive overhead for an NLS club. Also whatever Ryan brings to the table, it certainly didnt stop the team spectacularly screwing up our hard earned place in the NL this season under Hak.

I’m not. Not that I don’t feel for anyone who loses their job. But that’s football. George has not publicly stated his reasons, and doesn’t owe us an explanation. Just like Beth and a multitude of players, people come and go at football clubs all the time. I wish Ryan well. Sounds like his skills will be in great demand elsewhere.

Ryan clearly not on a contract. George equally clearly is looking for something else. Simple.

Everyone missing the point. It’s not him dispensing with his services it’s about how. Common decency.

Maybe George thought Ryan wasn't adding value anymore. If he wasn't making a positive contribution then he had to go. It is the manner of his going, not classy at all.

With the passing of Ryan and the savings on his wages, how about investing in swordy as an official club cheer-leader, maybe even Head of P.R. I don't think I've heard him so up-beat and positive for a long time. Must be the defeatism and negativity on the forum that cheers him so.

Common decency went out of the window years ago You have proved that today I don't care anymore. I've had 50 years experience of watching football I've seen how clubs up and down the country are run at different levels. I have spoken to owners ,chairmen, secretaries, managers and supporters and I've probably forgot more than most people will ever know. For health and financial reasons I decided to forgo this season which gives me more than enough time to read and analyse every word posted, the same with Facebook which I left a few months back because 90% of the contributors are braindead morons. This forum is heading the same way with so called supporters talking out of their arse. I have no objection to this as that are what forums are for but I've had enough of biting my tongue and from now on if I think someone is talking complete bollocks I'll tell them. There are many long term supporters and ex forum members who have left the forum because they are fed up of the non-sensical bullshit of people who know not of what they speak. I write a load of bollocks trying to inject some humour into these pages whereas others write bollocks believing it to be true.

WHAT AN ABSOLUTE LOAD OF TOSH FROM BEGINNING TO END This cheered me right up. It’s succinct and to the point. I’m not an expert but I’ll give my opinion on the video. It’s a bit long and repetitive. At points it seems like you are giving George your “okay” that he has let Ryan go. Also, you suggest at the end that this might make the players feel a bit uneasy and worry about their places in the squad - i should hope so. I am sure Ryan was a nice chap but let’s be honest, we are struggling and even though we are playing to a fairly ok standard we are failing at the basics. It’s not a shock that coaches would be changed. Something has to change. Finally, have you spoken to Ryan or are we going from the tweet here? It’s one sides, it’s short.
