The Star on Sunday has front page today that says Putin is'dying from colon cancer', as a way of explaining his irrational behaviour. Given the inaccurracy of so many of their predictions, suspect that nobody should get their hopes up. Plus, there is always another nutter in the wings. Meanwhile, good to know (I think), that our military chief of staff has a hot line to his Russian equivalent, which is tested daily. Wonder what they say? Hello comrade - which of our government's leaders has made the most looney pronouncements in the last 24 hours then? Only two things have made me smile about Putin's invasion. The tiny garrison on Snake Island who told the Russian warship commander to 'go f**k yourself' and the news that they may be well have survived after all. The rest is just too appalling for words.

No idea what is he above means - something ending in off perhaps? Either way Putin's cynicism in offering escape corridors only to Russia and Belarus is beyond belief. That, or maybe he really believes things are better in Russia than the West? One and a half million people going the other way suggests differently. It will be interesting to know how many decide to go East. Suspect it will turn out to be a massive snub to Mad Vlad, though it will no doubt be put down as Western brainwashing. We can only hope the truth will out.

We can only hope the truth will out. I thought I knew, but I can't get Google translate to agree! It's supposed to say something like: Fúck off Fúck off again Fúck off back to Russia "до Росії" is definitely "to Russia" in Ukrainian, and "знову" is "again", but Google and I don't agree about what 'fúck off' is in Ukrainian...

Anything to support his murderous campaign. Why is there never a lone nutter in a six floor moscow window with a rifle?

Possibly because the biggest industry in Russia is intelligence and everyone who might be considered a danger is known and more than likely in jail.

Why is there never a lone nutter in a six floor moscow window with a rifle? Possibly because the biggest industry in Russia is intelligence and everyone who might be considered a danger is known and more than likely in jail. Putin is said to be very wary of even catching a cold, let alone being shot, so only a very few trusted aides have access to him, or are allowed to get close. Unfortunately, this means that, not only is there very little chance of him being assassinated, but there are also almost no close supporters who might be able to kick him out (or retire him on mental grounds), or even suggest to him that he might be wrong. He has a very secure position at the top and is in complete control of everything. He was not put where is is by a group of supporters or a party (the pro-Putin party was created after he came to power just to win elections and support him in the Duma). He was put in charge by Yeltsin, and then built the entire edifice on his own. No Khrushchev or Gorbachev 'dacha moments' for this one, I'm afraid. That's why the West is so shit scared of him - if he decides to invade Estonia or press the nuclear button, there is no one to talk him out of it or to stop him.

You'd think that if Mad Vlad and his sychophants wanted the West to take them seriously, a good start might be tell the truth for a change. We know our own Alex de Pfeffel is a serial liar, but Putin's mob make him look a complete amateur. Bomb a hospital? It's because the Ukrainians had put armament there - never mind the fact that the Russians had bombed at least a dozen other hospitals recently and would be entitled to defend them. Use chemical weapons? Make up fake news about the Ukrainians using them first, which even IF it was so, is hardly an excuse to do the same, assuming you think you are a civilised society. Today, we hear Clad the Vunt, is advertising for foreign mercenaries to fight for him. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but methinks that doesn't say much about the ability of the Russian army? Perhaps they would like to rise up and exterminate the bastard?

BBC News - Russia sanctions: How the measures have changed daily life www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-60647543 Interesting article showing the effect of sanctions on ordinary Russian people. Fairly obvious that the same is happening here, albeit to a much lesser degree, with prices soaring. Meanwhile, if Ukraine cannot plant it's grain and sunflower crops this year, many in Africa will go hungry next year. Ukraine, meanwhile is bombed to buggery and millions of ordinary people are forced from their homes to go who knows where. And where does it end? A wider, cataclysmic conflagration that screws us all? A Russian Ukraine with guerrilla fighting that goes on for years and a new Cold War? Once scenario was to negotiate independence for the two eastern, pro Russian territories before all this started and give the rest of Ukraine time to build a proper defence system. Too late now of course, because looking at the devastation already wrought by Clad the Vunt, even if it all stopped today, it will take years to put just a couple of week's carnage right. We saw the world change through Covid, the effect of the Putin virus could be far worse.

It will be tough for everyone but our level of tough will be having to choose whether to cancel sky or a mobile contract, eat meat once or twice a week, buy new clothes or repair old ones. It’s a different level. We are so spoilt. We aren’t going tk starve

Reassuring to know the resident amateur epidemiologists are turning their expertise to warfare and international diplomacy.

Not about waging war, but the futility of it. At some point, it has to stop, but it is ordinary people who suffer, just because Putin Big Bollocks feels the need to do some willy waving.
