I am surprised I didnt get another facebook ban for some of my jokey comments yesterday , perhaps Facebook police have given up with meπ I got into trouble at work when Diana died for "not showing due respect". My crime? When someone was droning on about the People's Princess and how clever she was, I pointed out that she had only got one O level... I'd probably been lynched if I'd said what I really thought of the whole circus. I remember the day well,I had booked a days holiday to watch Newcastle v Liverpool on the tv and they cancelled it because she had died. I went f**king bananas , it was a good job she was dead or I would have killed her myself. How is that for a space time paradox π

I must admit that I did find the general psychological disposition of the nation toward Diana most peculiar at the time. It seemed like everyone felt that they knew her personally, and as such, she was put on such a high pedestal by the masses. Any comment in connection with her, that could be perceived as being negative, was frowned upon or worse. It reminded me of Carl Jung's observation of how a group of people, or a nation, can think and act as one mind. Of course he was referring to the rise of National Socialism in Germany., but the concept is the same, albeit with vastly differing consequences.

But you're not wrong.

Couldn't understand the Diana thing either, but then certain elements of the wider public psyche are lost on me. Quite who some of these so called 'celebrities' are is beyond me, though presume shows like Big Brother and Love Island are behind it. Names appear on spin off programmes or in the news and I have no idea who they are. In my day, childhood ambitions ranged from being an engine driver, through doctor, fireman, pilot etc. In a survey done a couple of years ago, kids main ambition was 'to be famous'. When you see the shitloads of money the Kardashian (whoever they are) have made from being a media presence, it's not hard to see why. Meanwhile - and speaking of shitloads - the litter situation in Kent is simply appalling. Getting out and about again, am ashamed at what is seen on roadside verges, with motorway junctions being particularly bad. There is a wealth of wild flowers coming out at the moment, but they are struggling to be seen amongst all the litter, much of which I'm guessing is the product of van and lorry drivers' take aways. Call me an old fascist, but clearing it up could make good use of so called 'community service' for minor offenders. Or how about using chain gangs, to give major offenders a bit of fresh air? Better still, nab the bastards who are littering and make them pick up 100x what they drop. And the dog shit too. Without gloves. Mutter, mutter...

Can I vote for you in the next round of elections? Last week I saw film of the disgusting litter aftermath of the latest covid relaxation measures on a park in London. Look out world, we're back in all our glory, and ignorant splendour. Talking of celebrity, I always have to ask my wife, 'Is that person famous?', because I never have a clue, and my wife's reply is almost always 'I don't know' as well. The first time I heard a discussion on TV about the Kardashians, I thought they were talking about a Star Trek plot, until the penny dropped as the dialogue progressed. Before anyone asks, yes, I am Victor Meldrew.

I regard litter as the foundation stone of the lack of respect shown by certain sectors of our society. When I was going to take over the country, my manifesto included repealing the Human Rights Act (or Convention), imposing the death penalty for littering (unless the convict could prove that they were of some use to society), and starting all weekend football matches at 3 pm on a Saturday. The worry was that I might get voted in....

Why would I be against anti-littering? I'd go further and question why most of the materials making up the litter was ever produced in the first place

There's a petition out there to get vehicle reg numbers printed onto drive thru packaging. Unrealistic but interesting. I've done two litter picks and reported 3 lots of fly tipping and 2 lots of abandoned roadworks signs in the last year. Actually getting something done about it.

Never mind all that, I've just been reading that the Standard Model of particle physics may be wrong!
Mind you, I've long suspeced that physicists are a bit loopy. They moan that the SM doesn't account for gravity, but we all know that gravity isn't a force, it's a warping of space-time caused by mass.
Silly buggers.

If gravity is caused by mass how do small bits of matter clump together to form a mass?
