I did hear someone describe the UK government's strategy as "whack-a-mole". Let's open up again....... Oh no, Leicester has a rise in cases! Lock it down...... Oh no, Oldham has a rise in cases! Lock it down.....etc.ad nauseum
Reactionary as opposed to a clear strategy based on informed opinion and factual studies. Basically making it up on the hoof. A government following the style of it's leader.
So, schools/NUT say they need more guidance. Government issues more guidance and the schools/NUT whine about it. Quelle surprise!
I'm not a fan of this government but it seems whatever they do, someone's gonna moan about it.
Given that both the Daily Mail and now the 1922 Committee have joined the list, suggest that there is a strong case to answer for. As for schools, am a governor at two and the DFE has been messing them about from the start. Guidelines were issued for the partial reopening in June, but then changed, AFTER heads and senior staff had spent several days planning, only to find they had to do it all again. The return to schools next week is cited as the most significant step in where we go with the virus, yet schools were given no additional advice on what happens if things go tits up again - despite the government having had weeks to do so. There again, they had weeks to work out how to moderate GCSEs and A Levels and look how well that worked out. Not hard to see that a pattern has emerged here. A, brewery, piss up, can't, a, hold, in.
I wonder how a labour government would have done in the same situation. We'll never know but I suspect it wouldn't have been much different. This country isn't actually run by the elected government, but by the various unelected quangos and civil service departments. Even Brexit was largely run by Dominic Cuntings.

How a Labour government would have done is irrelevant because we don't have a Labour government. In fact we don't have a government. We have a collection of individuals headed by a reprehensible scumbag making things worse on a daily basis. I'm struggling to see how another government of any type could have done worse. This thread started with me despairing at the ludicrous language surrounding a questionable decision. We now approach more questionable decision making. Opening schools, forcing people back to workplaces. The rhetoric... Send your kid to school or be fined. Get back to the workplace or risk your job. These decisions ain't about us, our mental health, our welfare etc. They are about protecting office rental values for rich people. Anyone who knows stuff knows that back to work in big cities is difficult because of lifts and transport. I'm being ordered to send my children back by an actual traitor not a literal one!

I've given up listening. Why bother? It is evident this scummy bunch were just about forcing through brexit to enrich themselves. They couldn't care about us. Personally, I wish they would offer no guidance or rules now. It could not be worse. At least I wouldn't have to listen to bare faced lying like that of Cummings after the Durham debacle. Still repeat ad nauseum... Think what Corbyn would have done and be comforted... The trouble is he is unlikely to have done worse and he may have done a lot better.

You infer that he is unlikely to have done any worse but surely inference is not actuality or so I once read somewhere not to long ago.

Oh dear. You do understand what unlikely means don't you?

I'm laying some slabs for a shed base over the next few days. I've never done this before and am nearly 70, with a wonky arm, so there's a fair chance it won't go well. But, however it turns out, I will accept responsibility for it, and learn lessons from the experience. But I will not be asking anyone, "yeah but can you imagine how bad it might have been with the bloke next door doing it?".
Of course you can 1+1 = 2,fact. I know at least half a dozen Mathematic geniuses who would argue that you are wrong.
1+1 either equals 2 and that is a fact or it doesn't and that is a fact. Just because some has a different opinion doesn't make it fact.
It's a bit like when you were telling me some palpable nonsense about the Lisbon Treaty last year and I told you it was untrue. When you asked me where I had got my info from and I said 'The Lisbon Treaty' you then claimed I had my facts and you had yours. No, I had facts and you had a fantasy you calling a fact.
