One of the very few sensible things Boris has said recently is "brace yourself for more restrictions until the end of March, at least"... I'm kind of resigned to that - though there has to come a time when it's just treated as a permanent / recurring phenomenon like flu (with, as has been said before, 1000s of deaths every year)? I've just put myself off my lunch with the thought of Boris saying "brace yourself", but that's another matter. The main problem with this virus is that all the so called leading experts are giving out conflicting views, which tells me that no one really knows enough about the virus which makes you think that all the vaccines that are being tested are pie in the sky and could have no impact on the virus at all. Whilst this government maybe completely inept the problem with all these measures is the complete disregard to them by a majority of people who seem to think that they are immune to the virus or that it won't impact them, however these in most cases, are the numpties who are causing the continued spread as even though they may not die from the virus, they are passing it onto others and have no regard for other peoples well being. You have to go back to source of the virus. China. Are they still having problems. If not. Do they have a vaccine ?

Pre-COVID we could laugh and shrug at the bloke in the office who said "what, who?" when we said we were Maidstone fans. But now it's pretty obvious it's not just the bloke in the office but that the government and even the FA don't care about football below the Premier League, I'm starting to believe the predictions of lower league football dying.

"Without confirmation, Step 2 clubs could withdraw from the FA Cup rather than triggering the start of contracts." Something I hadn't considered, but a serious point. The deadline for next Tuesday now effectively moves forward to this week, as clubs will presumably need to withdrw from the Cup a day or two before games are played? Or maybe contracts are a bit more nuanced than this, and playing just one or two games doesn't tie the club in for the whole season?

Well it seems the government have decided to help out ''The Government will provide a coronavirus bailout to the National League, in a move that will allow it to begin on Saturday and stop North and South division clubs withdrawing from the FA Cup.
Telegraph Sport can reveal that ministers have pledged to provide a rescue package to teams in the National League that could stop several of them going to the wall.
That package will not arrive before Saturday’s National League kick-off and FA Cup second qualifying round but the Government has promised to underwrite losses made by clubs as a result of them being forced to play behind closed doors.''www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/09/29/exclusive-government-provides-bailout-national-league-clubs/

No but they know what combination of treatments work as they have tested this virus.

However welcome government support is for non-league clubs, until details are known, you have to wonder how effective it will be. The Chanceller was right in saying not every job can be saved, but as to who gets help and who doesn't is not going to be easy and many will fall by the wayside. Usually try and avoid Jeremy Vine on the radio, but ended up listening in the car yesterday. Ran a topic on non league football and, as usual, it was interesting until all the usual extremists and 'angry of Tunbridge Wells' rang in. However, seemed the consensus was that the Premier League and Championship clubs should be putting their hands in their pockets, rather than the government (aka taxpayer). Someone suggested that top players could each adopt a club (bit like a donkey, seal, child etc on minor channel adverts). Now, a club like Maidstone will need around £25k minimum, each home game. Call it 30 games over the season, that equal £750k. Top premier League players are earning £20-30 million a year. How much of that will go in tax (assuming you don't employ Donald Trump's accountant)? The point is, were a rich player or players able to adopt a club, off setting their contribution against tax would mean they'd probably lose nothing at all. Too simple? Almost certainly...

National League clubs told they will receive emergency grant from government www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54352735"The size of any grant is yet to be confirmed, but BBC Sport understands the league is hoping for around £2-3m per month." Yeah, lets see if it's anything near that number...
