Maybe they could set up a system similar to carbon trading. Boreham Wood could sell us some of their allocation.

That is dated 15/9, so presumably they've had a reply by now? Edit: This apears to be the latest 'news' - dated three days ago: "Following a meeting of its Board of Directors this afternoon, the following update is issued on behalf of The National League: In recognition of the financial uncertainty facing its member clubs, The National League is actively engaged with Government, with the assistance of The Football Association, to secure a critical financial support package, and it is hoped this can be announced very soon. It is imperative the revenue shortfall caused by the pause to the safe return of spectators is responsibly addressed so each club can operate sustainably over the course of the forthcoming season." That was the statement released on Thursday, the government said up yours to it. I really lost it with Hancock last week when he lied in parliament.

Looking at the news this morning, it is arguable that even the most die hard Tory is thinking the government have last the plot. 1. Everyone could see students returning to uni would increase transmission, but they went ahead and now have lame excuses about securing futures. Either they want to stay on top of Covid19, or they don't. Make your mind up. 2. Evidence suggests that the 10pm shutting of pubs and restaurants is causing problems, with everyone leaving at the same time and/or congregating somewhere else. Against something the government were told would happen. 3. Test as trace is still not working, with many of those employed hardly doing anything, while when local authorities take charge, as in Leicester, they have a far better success rate. Trouble is, they often aren't told until a day or two later.
Presumably, the government has a considerable range of advisors to draw upon. Trouble is, are they listening, or indeed consulting widely enough? If they were, then you have to think that we should be doing better. Too many people are showing signs of being fatigued by restrictions and no doubt the changes and inconsistencies have much to do with it. Now we have the farce with the FA cup in that had Stones been drawn at home, it would have been nil spectators. Instead, 300+ Stones fans can travel to Hendon, which being part of London, presumably has a higher Covid rate that mid Kent. Mmm, just as well there can be no spectators at the first league game, maybe? The government insists its decisions are being driven by the science of the pandemic, though clearly economics plays an increasing roll. Maybe it is time they started to consider social aspects, not least general human nature and 'the boy who cried wolf' story.

I suppose the tricky task is working out which clubs are really in trouble and which are not? Those being bankrolled by foreign money or Premier League women's teams (for example) should arguably not be receiving (as much) UK taxpayers' hard-earned cash.

"The group refers to the £1.5bn bailout that the government gave to arts and cultural organisations in July." An odd comparison. How much would they have given them if the elite grup of theatres, opera houses, museums, etc made/spent/wasted the sort of money the PL does? What if opera singers, stage actors, museum bosses, etc 'earned' the sort of money top footballers do? How much sympathy would the public have for their plight? If I didn't care a fig about football (and remember that's the vast majority of people), I would look at the obscene amount of money the PL pisses up the wall, and I would say, "Why on earth should we give that lot a single penny of our hard-earned tax payments? If the lower end of football is in trouble, why can't the rich bastards at the top dip into their overstuffed pockets and help them out? It's small change to them." Just saying...

Can we have our football season back now? Figures are generally lower on a Monday as reports get lost on a Sunday,if tomorrow's figures are good then we might have something to cheer about.
