Accrington Stanley chairman has said that if the EFL is to be finished behind closed doors then it's likely that Accrington will fold for the second time in history.

So EFL expect teams like Accrington with fewer fans than us to keep paying players to play in games no one can watch live?
Crazy world of football.

But if they've got fewer fans than us, surely matchday income can't be that critical to them? Actually, their gates are about 1,000 more than ours - but even so, to afford to stay (almost) in L1, they must have other substantial sources of income. We couldn't even survive in the bloody National with roughly the same gates!

TV and sponsor money, whilst not in the same figures as the prem teams there is still a fair bit of income made from tv money and sponsorship. Accrington though are one of the few/only league teams who seem to be run sensibly, if you are on twitter it's worth following their owner as he seems to be the only league chairman with any common sense and it's refreshing sometimes to see an owner of a league club make the comments he does.

Down to what level would behind-closed-doors games get televised? And would that involve a pay-per-view system?

It is also about having an excellent management team with the nous to recruit inexpensive players and then develop them to the best of their potential within a teams that gells well. We have quite a few examples. Problem is JS1 came pretty close and what followed didn't measure up. I'm not as pessimistic about National League ambitions as most posts in this forum, but as a starting point we need top class management.

Sad news today that Rhyl fc former northern premier league club have folded after 141 years of existence. They are the second club so far to succumb to COVID 19 cancellations. Belle Vue park was one of my favourite Welsh grounds and I saw Newcastle United play a friendly there in 1992. A sad day for a club steeped in Welsh history.😫

Steady on Stonethecrow, sounds like a plug for diverting JS1 from his taxi to Dover back to the Gallagher. Oi, that's my job!

A bit of good news for a change. Durham City of the Northern league (step 6) have announced that former Celtic legend Didier Agathe as their new manager, within 24 hours there facebook page had 100,000 hits.

Wigan Athletic 14th in the championship and bang in form have gone into receivership with Covid 19 postponements taking a fair proportion of the blame. Unless they find a buyer soon they will be the next club to wave bye bye. I sincerely hope not.

I don't believe covid-19 is the issues here, their average attendance is around 10k a decent size of this will be season ticket holders so the amount of income they have lost due to covid-19 is not huge, season ticket money is already on their books. The problem is the overspending on player salaries it's another example of a team spending beyond their means, they got good crowds in their premier hey days but Wigan is a rugby town and the football team just won't get the crowds unless they are in the top flight. I keep seeing all this f the efl, but let's be honest how many times have owners be chastised for not spending money by fans when the fans want to get promoted etc, fans are as much to blame for the state of football as the owners who overspend to appease the fans.

Wigan could be an indicator for how serious this is going to be. Usual over-spending bollocks, followed by rescue by another gullable new owner, and it's just the same old, same old. But if they go down, then it's anyone's guess where this is going to stop. There's a lot of EFL clubs already on the edge.
