I think you will find that the Gates Foundation is calling for global cooperation to supply a vaccine - that will be done by multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical companies, not Microsoft. Or maybe the Guardian readers are going to club together and make it on their allotments out of unicorn tears and essence of moral superiority?
And Mr Gates's Microsoft hasn't yet produced a vaccine to inoculate PCs against computer viruses - instead leaving consumers to resort to third party after-the-fact solutions at additional cost.

Because he's not interested in a cure for anything because he's not interested in saving lives, he thinks the planet is overpopulated. The vaccine is just a transport mechanism for the digital certificate he wants to implant in us all as the next phase of mobile/internet technology. Keep up, Touchstone!

There is a point to Nadine Dorries after all, it seems - she lets cats out of bags. From today's Guardian live news: "On Wednesday night, the health minister Nadine Dorries tweeted that journalists should stop asking about an exit strategy. She said: There is only one way we can ‘exit’ full lockdown and that is when we have a vaccine. Until then, we need to find ways we can adapt society and strike a balance between the health of the nation and our economy." The current opinion on when a vaccine will be available is "12 - 18 months". Matt Hancock caught completely off-guard - he told Sky News: "I think what Nadine was saying is the idea that we’ll immediately ... we’ll just switch off all of the measures and return to some kind of ... to things exactly as they were - that is not likely in the short term." Waffle and dodge, as per. The reality is that so few people have had this virus (compared to the total population), that there will be almost exactly the same number of fresh, uninfected, non-immune, people just waiting for young Corona 19 to do its worse as there were at the start of the lockdown. The lockdown seems to have done its job - to stop a mass outbreak of Convid 19 - but it has not stopped the virus. I wonder just how many of the great unwashed realise this - and what their reaction will be when it finally sinks in? How are we going to go back to 'normal' if we have to stay 2m apart?? Tube, train, bus, anyone? Oh, and to add to the unrestrained joy - it is also confirmed today that men are twice as likely to die as women... Are you sure that's the statement you want to pass on as correct?

BBJ - you forgot the 5G virus cover up... But, madness aside, this virus does actually kill more people than flu. 23000-odd died in England of flu 5 winters ago, and kills an average of 9000 or so every winter in England. And about 600,000 people die every year in... was that England or UK, can't remember. There's a number to suit every argument though, isn't there. Financial statisticians (probably published in those nasty right-wing newspapers) say that a serious recession takes 3 months off your life expectancy (poorer diet, more stress etc)... We will never know how many would have died without the severe restrictions put in place.

That's what they called Noah. No, I don't mean Chesmain. All of the above is correct, Touchstone. Call me an idiot, by all means, that's is your right to stick your head in the sand, but one day, remember these posts when the flood comes and you are told that you have to be implanted.

I don't mean this unkindly, but BBJ, do you have much of a support network? There's been a fair amount of cod getting a walloping on this forum at the best of times (and I like to think I've contributed my fair share), but this stuff is making the rest of us look like amateurs. I honestly hope you are well.

I didn't use the words 'mentally ill' (I wouldn't do that no matter the circumstances), I just expressed concern that you see the world so very differently from the majority of us. I am glad you are well. Let's hope we can all catch up and put the world to rights sooner rather than later at the Gallagher!

Probably not the right place to post this, but when has this forum ever stuck to the rules? To the theme of 'pasta joke', it seems to me that two areas increasingly stand out: Donald Trump and, sadly, elements of the UK government. Trump of course is simply showing his true colours - a selfish, arrogant fuckwit, with no sense of the bigger picture. Am sure Plastic Passion could come up with many more creative strings of adjectives, but the man just beggars belief. Elements of the UK government include Matt Hancock in particular, who is doing an all too good impression of a headless chicken. Am starting to doubt some of our scientific advice too, especially not being forceful enough over testing from the beginning. Germany and South Korea seem to have got it right and maybe even the Aussies and Kiwis, whereas the UK is increasingly looking like we screwed up big time. Whether another party would have done any better is doubtful. We seem to be lacking woefully in strong leadership and it looks like we could very much become the sick man of Europe if latest predictions become true. Certainly hope not, but ain't holding my breath.

You didn't use the words but seemed to imply them pretty strongly in your post my friend, but your peace offering is accepted and your sentiment about joining together in putting the world to rights in the safe haven of our teams stadium is received in the friendly spirit in which it appears to have been given. Yes, lets all hope we can be back into the escapism of the Gallagher cheering the Stones again soon to stop having to think about the madness going on around us in the rest of society! COYS!

Today we would have been at home to Wealdstone in the penultimate game of the season.
