Off topic a bit on Thurday I along with my sister stopped off at the City Arms , Canterbury for a pint. The barman was Romanian whose views were very candid about having to work for minimum pay whilst other Eastern Europeans including his own countrymen were fleecing the British tax payers for huge benefits. He advocated a round up of these people and supported deportation to give workers like himself a better standing in the community. He was then bollocked by his boss for airing his views and he told him to "f**k off you Croatian pig". Happy days ,I hope he still has a job. Just for clarity to this great story. The government once did research into the amount of Europeans coming to the UK for benefits and it was 7%. EU rules state that you can deport someone if they have not found a job after 3 months. Why the UK chooses not to do so is a question for the government that the brexiters all voted back in. Just like to point out that I am indeed a brexiteer but I didnt vote tory thank you very much. I accept your forthcoming apology.

I shall await your forthcoming apology.

And whilst not wishing to raise conspiracy theories, why did postal voting double since previous elections (and all news about now seems to have been suppressed)?

I suspect I share NWS's political views but I come to the General Chat section to forget what a bloody disaster the referendum/Boris government will continue to make of this country. From time to time I'd like to post on social, political, environmental or economic issues and I think that pre-election there was some justification for having a political thread in General Chat. But now, we have to face it we have lost, not just the vote but we are going to get what the Tory elites are going to give us. Can the General Chat section become a place of refuge and political threads be moved to the non-Maidstone Utd section.
I know we can just ignore threads that we are not interested in but seeing political threads in the General Chat is like looking into the family photo album and seeing Nigel Farage's moronic, smug grin in every photo.

I genuinely don't use that word because it seems to suggest that people voting for brexit are brave buccaneers. I think that is absurd. Again, I will repeat, while I didn't vote for this nonsense and cannot blamed for whatever comes from it, I genuinely pray that I am wrong about it.

I normally reply to such posts by pointing out you don't have to read it. Your post is so well worded and eloquent that, while I don't necessarily agree, I shall refrain from following my normal route. I hope your day is a good one despite my introduction of Nigel's smug face.

Democracy relies upon losers' consent. blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandpolicy/losers-consent-brexit/Overall, these findings suggest that ‘graceful’ losers over Brexit were politically involved and principled citizens who were more inclined to judge the merits of democracy in procedural terms. In our study they were also more politically sophisticated, less emotionally engaged in the electoral decision, held more moderate views on the object of the vote, and were undecided between the options until the end of the campaign.

Democracy, includes ignoring the majority in 2019 to respect the majority of 2016, yes? And from your article... "However, the findings suggest that the stability of democracies may also depend on other groups of voters rarely celebrated by analysts – namely some of the late deciders and those voters torn between contradicting considerations. These two groups have a reputation for being less politically educated and deciding how to vote in emotional or expressive ways."
