Jesus Christ. Some of you have written off the whole season before a competitive ball have been kicked. Why the doom and gloom? We have a whole new squad of players with potential, who want to play for Maidstone. Let's enjoy this division and see what happens. Reality, Barney. We just aren't putting our heads in the sand and black and amber blinkers on. Its not doom and gloom, (or panic) just managing expectations. If this squad gets added to (or not) and storms to the top of the table and wins the league, or even scrapes play off promotion, we will be ecstatic, it just doesn't look likely right now, but we all hope we are wrong! What really didn't help things is Terry making stupid statements like ''I expect us to win the National South because we will have a budget 3 times bigger than everyone else'' You then see our recruitment, look at the players other teams are signing & realise it was just another one of Terry's absurd statements.....Like last summer when he said we would have a top half budget and expects us to challenge for the play offs He really does himself no favours.

I thought our squad was pretty poor this time last season, and they Ash and Casey were out of their depth owning a team at that level, result? Relegated because of piss poor planning, a poor squad, and ultimately no one having a clue. I still turned up every home game and a large chunk of away games, still supported the team, but I wasn’t blind believing we would turn water into wine. This season other teams have made real statements (Havant and Ricay) whilst others have made solid business, (aka Hemel). I’ve looked at who we’ve got in, and from what I’ve seen by the whole not been that impressed. I’m not too confident at this stage the “happy times” will make a dramatic return but want to be wrong. For all their talk about wanting to make fans happy again, the owners have gone about it in a poor way considering we might be over budget already, which is probably true considering no other signings except desperate trialists, who’ve we yet to sign any also.

Desperate trialists? I disagree. Ryan Johnson (trialist) looked excellent and made up a strong back 4 certainly better than last season. Jake Cole's kicking - keeping the ball on the island should save a tidy sum. Midfield I think everyone was impressed by Sadu Khan (trialist) who was probably the best midfielder, covering when necessary and supplying good balls to the attackers. Barrington (trialist) impressed on the wing playing similar to Amaluzar and like him can also play in the number 9 role. I am not sure if you saw the game Hammerstone but if you did do you disagree with my assessment?

My comment isn’t one about individual abilities, it’s more players who are putting themselves out for work rather than being inundated with offers. Our record with them is pretty woeful so you’ll have to forgive my optimism, Harley Willard looked decent in PSFs and was swifted our after.

This is a pretty accurate summary of where we are, as far as we can tell. We all hope for more, of course, and hopefully, as the season progresses, the team will be added to and fine tuned and the results will start going our way. But I suspect even the optimists on here are looking forward to August with some trepidation.

But that's ok, you just continue writing the team off before we've even started. After all it's what you do.

As soon as the term optimist is used, guess what ? Up pops daveu !
I think most supporters can agree that the team assembled is mainly comprised of players that need to improve if success is to follow.
John Still has been shopping mostly in the Bargain Basement stall, not Harrods.
Don't think any supporters are writing the team off but equally nobody is saying anymore that we will take this league by storm
Optimists may have to rein in their expectations a shade, imo this team will need a bit of time to grow and flourish.

Just my considered view. You need to chill out and not take everything so personally.

Actually the last sentence of your original post contradicts the claim that it's just your considered view. Why should I need to take a chill pill simply for pointing out that we're not all looking forward with some trepidation. Not my considered point of view, but a fact. We're not all doom and gloom merchants who have pre-judged the team before they've played a competitive game. There's just a select group of you who think that the players we've signed aren't good enough without even giving them a chance. And even if we're bottom after 10 games that still doesn't make you right because you've formed your opinion already based on no evidence, whereas I will be forming my opinion based on the evidence of 10 games.

I take everything you say with a shrug - and then I ignore it. See very chilled.

Jesus, Dave, I'm starting to sympathise with nws! Think what you like, but as soon as you start including stuff like "even the optimists..." I will challenge you because whatever you think, you can't claim to speak for anyone else. To be honest, if you hadn't included that last sentence I wouldn't even have replied.

Between them pedant NWS and DaveU are making this site in several threads heavier than a Kedwell on a Saturday night. I think we all need to chill out and do shorter posts. Stones are doing well today and the team is taking shape. Maybe not automatic promotion candidates but taking shape. COYS!

Liked the thread last year so thought I would start another! See what happens? You try and provide a new interesting topic for conversation, and it goes the same way as every other discussion jumped on by the usual suspects.
