Since the article has disappeared, any chance of a quick summary? Jay Saunders is staying at Maidstone after turning down the Macclesfield Town job.
Saunders was close to taking his big chance to manage in the Football League but couldn’t leave his hometown club.
The League 2 new boys made Saunders their No.1 target to succeed John Askey, who has joined Shrewsbury.
Bookmakers made Saunders odds-on 1/10 favourite and even suspended betting at one stage, convinced it was a done deal.
But the Stones boss informed Macclesfield this morning he would be staying at the Gallagher.
He told the Kent Messenger said: “It's been a tough couple of days.
“I had a lot to think about and weigh up but I've turned it down.
“Macclesfield approached the club to speak to me and it was weird because somehow it's got out.
“That was the biggest pulling point, the fact every manager wants to go as high as they can and it was an opportunity to manage in the Football League.
“It's obviously flattering to be asked to do it because it shows someone appreciates what you've done and the work you've put in.
"But then I had to weigh up decisions on Hayley and the kids, leaving them here, and your friends and everything and moving up there.
“It was tough, I'll be honest with you, I was very, very close to going but I've made the right decision and hopefully we can kick on and have a good season.”
Saunders has been linked with Leyton Orient and Gillingham in the past but this was his first genuine chance to step up to the Football League.
He added: “Honestly, I’ve tossed and turned for the last two nights.
“I've had such a long association with this club and you take everything into account.
“There's been rumours in the past of different clubs but this was the first time a club's actually approached Maidstone to speak to me.
“It was all new. I was having a chat with them and meeting them and it was a bit weird for me.
"At 10 o'clock last night I was close to going but I just think there's too many things I didn't feel right about.
"I've got a lot of ties with this club, it's my local club and there's my family to think about.
"I needed everything to be perfect for me to do it but there were too many reasons why I couldn't go.
"Like anything, in football, you have to be 100% in it and your head's got to be 100% in the right place because if you're not, you end up failing.
“Anything I do I always give 100% and always try my best and I didn't feel my head and my heart were 100% in it.”webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:kmnr2N4n4qoJ:www.kentonline.co.uk/maidstone/sport/why-jay-rejected-silkmen-184180/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk

I wonder why they pulled that. Nothing particularly contentious about it.

I for one am a relieved man. Macclesfield are a club with a far smaller fan base. They averaged 1838 at home last season in the year they won the league on what was widely reported to be a smaller budget than the big spenders...Huge credit to Askey. Yes theyve spent a fair proportion of their recent history in the league (1997-2012) but what im trying to say is that Lg2 is their correct level at a push. Saunders made a good call in my opinion. He has built Maidstone into the side/ position we currently stand and we have far more chance of climbing the pyramid further than the Silkmen. Add to that we now dont have to make a rash appointment in order to start getting players in the building. Good news all round. Look how easy it was last season up until xmas to be up the top end of this league. Yes the Pig was pivotal in that but Jay managed it. Lets learn form last year and not sell our best players until the summer. Woking did the same and look what happened to them and almost to us! UTS

Nothing particularly contentious about it. agreed, but there has to be a reason of course Frenchie reported that he contacted the club yesterday to be told that Macclesfield had not made any approach but at least this pulled report evidences that there was a fire causing the smoke and the club came very close to losing Jay and that would have put the cat amongst the pigeons at this stage of the pre season happily, all's well that ends well ! perhaps we can soon get onto the prospect of a couple more player signings.

I think that's a smart move by Jay, looking at it he must have thought it just wasn't worth all the aggro involved of family upheaval for a club that may come straight back down as well. Job satisfaction is a must, he's spent a lot of time with you and I think your owners have told him how much they want him, and rightly so. Our manager had offers from the League and has turned them down, the club that want's them has to be right one, no point going for a job your on a loser on before you even start...... I for one think you will have a very good season players will want to come to you now, the reason for that, stability.

Doubt he'd even consider a move to L2 though, especially as you look a good bet for promotion in the next couple of seasons.

At the end of the day, to be fair, you are setting records for number of clichés packed into one post, to be honest.

Strangely SkyBet still have Jay as favourite, although the odds are now only 2/5. The text from the deleted KM article has now been posted on their forum so I'd expect him to disappear from the betting fairly soon.

Common sense prevails. And quite right too. Maidstone is about as secure as you can get in football for Jay, with the club repeatedly talking about him being there for the long haul. However flattering it was to be head hunted by Macc, he must have known it could all go tits up inside six months and then he would be stuck up north with potentially very limited prospects. Better the devil you know, methinks.

He's only turned this down for one reason only, if you've ever been to Macclesfield you'll know why. (complete shit hole!!)

Take away the fact they are now in L2 and what would Jay have gained from the move? Nothing, just a lot of uncertainty and risk. So, the only attraction was moving up a division - and there's a fair chance that Macc will come straight down again, or at least do badly enough to sack their manager by Christmas, so he wouldn't have 'enjoyed' L2 for long anyway.
I don't think there was ever a chance of Jay going for this. The only reason he spent so long thinking about it was the novelty of being head-hunted, and probably part of him thought that he might not get the chance to manage in L2 again. But, take that away, and staying at Maidstone is a much better bet all round.
Still, it kept Nick and Frenchy happy for a couple of days...

I'm not sure any of us are qualified to say exactly what was going through Jay's mind - only he knows that. You did forget to mention that they would have been offering him more money as something he would have gained. Jay did say in the article that got removed from KO that he largely stayed for his family - he put them first, and that's great. Jay is a top bloke in my view and, if we do really well next season, he'll deserve the success.
