Shepherd Neame taking it over. White Rabbit currently closed, being turned into a steakhouse. Maidstone being desperate for yet another restaurant... Its only a rebranding / refit. Don't think you'll see a great deal of difference.

Someone bought the Little Gem in Aylesford at auction and has applied for a new license. Planning on running it as a micropub selling real ales.

Or did you mean micro-brewery?

Last time I used the Little Gem it was a pub without beer! Not even a fizzy lager. It's almost as if they were deliberately running it down for sale. Released from the dead hand of a pubco, it could be something very special.

The Gem's problem was always the thing that made it so attractive - its size (or lack of it). Once the regulars settled in for the evening, there wasn't much room for others. A micro-brewery is probably the only viable option, as they wouldn't be entirely dependent on sales in the pub - assuming they can sell elsewhere.
I hope it works out, it was such a shock to visit Aylesford a few years ago and find the Gem closed. In the days when I worked in Chatham (and people still thought nothing of driving to a liquid lunch), it was effectively my local. Many happy memories.

Released from the dead hand of a pubco, it could be something very special. Was always one of my favourites in my youth (my 20's and early 30's). However, despite being a favourite, my infrequent visits probably did little to help it prosper !
