Looks like the BBC is doing its best to promote Billericay as they are taking the opportunity to televise live todays fa cup match between Billericay and Didcot at 12.30. Why not choose another match? I suppose money talks.

To be fair they didn't look too bad as their wage budget would hope. As they progress up the ranks it will narrow and they will soon be found out.

Excellent read - thanks for posting that Dave. This should be compulsory reading for all football fans. And I'm left totally puzzled by his finances. With his string of collapsed business (still owning millions) and very dodgy sounding past. You can imagine him managing to swing a few deals by financial bluffing and chicanery, but how on earth did he afford his "68 acre, £18m Abridge mansion" and "four Ferraris" and "£7m wedding"?? As for the bit about being a "Christian" - it's difficult to decide whether to laugh or cry...

As for the bit about being a "Christian" - it's difficult to decide whether to laugh or cry... The man's record in trying to acquire clubs in Essex should have been a warning shot across the bows of any club that found itself in his sights, quite apart from his record in business generally. From what I can make out, it was the supporters of Dagenham and Redbridge that ultimately scuppered the deal there, board members only withdrawing their support when it became clear the supporters didn't trust him. How he passes the FA's fit an proper persons test is anybody's guess, but a quick look into the history of the likes of Hereford and Salisbury soon makes it clear that said test isn't worth the paper it's written on. He may end up, against all expectations, and against all the evidence of previous "sugar daddy" clubs, making it work, but at what cost. His ego, his publicity seeking, and his treatment of anyone who doesn't support his point of view, have make the club a virtual pariah in non-league circles. When he eventually moves on it will take years for a once friendly and likeable club to re-earn the respect they once had.

Did find this weirdness though...
Billericay Town boss Glenn Tamplin has revealed full-back Elliot Kebbie has turned down a pay-off to leave the club, despite the controversial manager saying he won’t play for the Blues again.
Kebbie, 23, started his career at La Liga giants Atletico Madrid, but joined the Essex club last summer following short spells at the likes of Rangers, Hull and Salford City.
He is reported to be on £1,000 a week in Essex, making him one of the Bostik Premier club’s highest earners, and Tamplin says the versatile defender has chosen to fulfil his two-year contract instead of moving on.
Speaking to the Echo, the Billericay boss said: “Elliot Kebbie doesn’t fit into this team. He is a lovely lad but just doesn’t fit into the team.
“Last year I had players under contract and I paid them their contract and they left. I offered Elliot a pay-off and he hasn’t accepted it.
“I am still paying him so he has chosen to accept money, rather than play football.
“There are rumours about tribunals but, as far as I am concerned, I have done nothing wrong.
“I am paying Elliot his wages as long as he fulfils his contract. He will just not play.”
Kebbie has made just three appearances since joining Tamplin’s side, most recently playing in September during a 5-0 win over Thamesmead Town in the FA Cup.

Cheers. But no need to call me boss when we're outside work. Can't work out what to make of Tamplin. He sets off so many alarm bells, but on the other hand, he's so extreme that maybe he's not the same as all the Billy Big Bollocks who came before him. Perhaps he's the Abromovich of non-league - funds the creation of something that then becomes self-sustaining (assuming Chelsea actually HAS become self-sustaining?), but in South Essex?? Is there the interest, are there the fans? The Big London clubs (and Spurs) are too close in one direction, and the locals already have Southend, Chelmsford, Braintree, etc - and the host of "generic south-Essex clubs" much loved by PP. He's got the gate up to over 1,300 (av), which is good for a relatively small place, more or less in the middle of nowhere, but even so it's not the highest in the IP - Hamlet still get bigger gates, without all the money, hype and ex-PL players. Billericay has a population of just under 28,000 - compare that to Maidstone (town), with a population of 108,000, nearly 4 times as many. Their gates are similar to ours when we were in the IP, but will they be able to get 2,500 averages in the National? If not, their business model, even with all the extras Tamplin is planning, isn't sustainable. Rushden and Diamonds mark 2? (Actually, mark 3 - the jury is still out on Forest Green Rovers...)

Essex football is riddled with examples of clubs that have soared & then like Icarus plunged down to the depths again ( usually pursued by The Revenue.... ).

They won again today. Not top of the table because of a bizarre number of games in hand (how??), but on a NINE game winning run.
Interestingly, although they are regularly winning and have scored 4 or more in four games, they aren't really spanking anyone. You'd think, with all their star players, they'd be thumping teams 8 or 10 nill every now and again.
Only half their games have been clean sheets too. Seems you CAN buy your way out of the IP, but you can't buy quite as much as you might have expected.
