Just read that information they found and pasted on their forum. Don't know who wrote that, but it says our stadium was 'cut out of a hillside.' Not quite accurate lol. In terms of travel and drinking info it is still fairly accurate I'd say, but do the Lions still run the charity car park? I always walk to the ground down the towpath so I wouldn't know, but I thought that had stopped ages ago. I think that's pretty much a copy and paste job from the footballgroundsguide website. The charity car park was forced to close due a change of policy by the landlords of the county gate building occupied by JobCentrePlus www.maidstoneunited.co.uk/2017/08/update-on-lions-car-park/The cut into a hillside reference is partly accurate as the eastern slope was cut into for the building of the main stand.

Just re-reading the front page:
The Fisherman's Arms is not Maidstone's oldest building! Oldest pub, maybe, but very far from being the oldest building. Most of the buildings around the Archbishop's Palace/All Saints and some along the river are very much older. From memory, the oldest building actually in the town is Corpus Christi Hall (Maidstone Chambers - bottom of Earl St), which dates back to the 14th century - well before the town itself (as we know it) came into existence.
I’m not sure just how “LGBT friendly” the Queen Anne is these days (before hordes of gay Oldham fans descend on it…). It was advertised as such immediately after the refurbishment, but since then it has been heavily pushed as a ‘family’ pub – sadly, no relics of the old rainbow flag and dodgy cabaret days remain. You could try kissing another bloke at the bar, I suppose, but I wouldn’t recommend it…
And, lastly, one for the pedants – The Lower Bell (as its name indicates!) is not “half-way up Bluebell Hill”, it is at the foot of Bluebell Hill!

I was interested to read that the White Rabbit is not welcoming - went in there a couple of times ca. 2012, plenty of amber shirts and no worries. But times / pub managers change... their loss.

Is now a steak place, not sure they still have a walk in bar as the time I went it was set up as a restaurant

The Queen is just round the corner to me and I've meant to pop in there for ages, but that won't be any time soon after reading these reviews!

Well good luck to them, but not my sort of pub. The Queen is just round the corner to me and I've meant to pop in there for ages, but that won't be any time soon after reading these reviews! Having been in a pub in Abbey Wood where an old woofter tried to snog me and I had to nut him before striding out of the pub a visit to the Queen Anne is very low on my list of things to do. Now my niece is gay and funnily enough so is her wife or husband or what ever the f**k she is and they feel very uncomfortable in the QA and are much more at home in the run of the mill pub in town. As for homo-sexuals maybe this is the pub for them which is good as i am not against such things as ling as the shirt lift....

All this talk about the Queen Anne reminds me of the story in Fred's book about the time our players cheekily stitched up Steve Butler by telling him they were meeting there for a drink. Butts had no idea it was a gay pub and duly turned up, standing by the bar on his own, looking lonely LOL

I once had a drink (a rather quick one, as it turned out) in a pub near the Strand (I think) called Halfway to Heaven - the meaning of the name didn't click until I started glancing through some of the flyers on the bar..

Things have changed within our lifetimes. My dad used to rant about "rampant gays". I tell my child it's OK for men to love men and women to love women. Not sure when that change happened, but it probably took a conscious and deliberate choice to overcome fear that had been taught from a young age. I believe greater acceptance of difference has mostly been a good thing for society. Tolerance and understanding in all things is good, we've all got to get along etc. [ now, who's that f******g tw@t who's just parked across my drive ].

I am certifiably weird, not only do I have Malcolm the Parrott and Cedric the tortoise but soon I will be bunny-sitting a huge white rabbit called Fred until its owners come back from Seth Efrica. Malcolm doesnt know yet but i expect him to freak out when he does whereas Cedric couldnt give a toss.
