Bugger! I knew this yesterday and forgot to post it! Went past it on the bus on the way to my vaccination - not a good start to the morning. Let's just hope it gets brought back as a pub, although I suppose the signs aren't good. But what else would you do with the building(s) - it's hardly a shopping Mecca, that part of the street, and I'm not sure people would want a flat there either, with all that traffic thundering past. If the Pilot goes, that's pretty much it for the town, that was the only really decent 'proper' old pub left.

The Rifle Volunteers is still going! Doing deliveries at the moment until lockdown ends. Yeah, I was being a little partisan! There's still a (very) few others I would happily drink in (the Flower Pot, for one), but the loss of the Pilot is still a blow. It was (sort of) my local for years, and I have a lot of good memories from those days - friendly atmosphere, fantastic range of beers, rather dubious pizzas - and a game of pool for only 20p! Mind you, one of the reasons I liked it so much was that it was easy to get served and there was always plenty of room - and we often had the pool table to ourselves for hours. So, I guess, it was pretty obvious, even then, that it wasn't getting enough custom to survive.

The smell of the Pilot during the winter is/was unrivaled. Used to love the Old Ale.

Here we go again. A quick search shows the Pippin and Drakes reopening Monday. Drakes have live music on the opening night. Table bookings available, but not compulsory. Weather forecast suggests the need to wrap up warmly. Any other pubs with outside space opening? I think I read the Duke of Marlborough is opening. The Brenchley has a massive garden as well as a roof top garden. The Royal Albion has a seated area on the concourse outside. The Market House has a rooftop garden.

Those make sense. Society Rooms has that dingy courtyard area. Saw something about mobile phones with test & trace being compulsory. I won’t be drinking anywhere I can’t write down a comedy false name. Dont think it'll matter anyway as they'll all be shut again when the third Reich, sorry third wave, marches across Europe and lands on our doorstep.

The Stag were varnishing some very rickety looking tables round the back. The Stag ( High Street ) had windows boarded up earlier this afternoon - presumably just a precaution ?

I had an early hospital appt.at Maidstone hospital and so headed to town for a beer and was refused entrance at 4 pubs because I hadn't booked in advance so it was back to the Chequers in Tonbridge. The landlord asked if i had booked I replied "no but if you dont find me a quiet corner you will never see me again" within 2 minutes they had brought a table and chair down the steps to the garden an found me space away from the throng. f**k Maidstone!

Cherry Tree near the hospital is very relaxed. Just walk in. Took your advice and I am in there now or should I say outside🤣

Had a most enjoyable pint in the white horse on Sunday afternoon. No need to book, just popped in on the way home from town.

Was that before or after the Buckland Hill episode?
