Have they changed their manager? They are up to 16th now.

Yes. Danny Searle is a wise and experienced manager at this level. Moreover, he keeps a settled side and has eradicated the suicidal tippy tappy at the back, and death by pointless passing. Paradoxically, Our first goal came about through Rochdale making a gross mistake whilst faffing around at the back!

Is that a paradox, or merely irony?

Is that a paradox, or merely irony? I don't think they've yet conquered the English language in some parts of northern Kent. 🤣

York City have given up half the ground to accommodate Chesterfield fans with the home club giving a big f**k you to the season ticket holders in the West stand who will have to move. The home fans ain't happy. What do you reckon DaveU and jdl would you give up your seat to accommodate away fans?

If the club decided to do it we wouldn’t have any choice, but I would expect them to refund the extra, and if it was a sell out and I couldn’t get in, the whole price.

That didn't go down very well.

The table looks very unbalanced at the moment. If Chesterfield win their next game and Barnet lose theirs, then they will be champions, though a 23 point lead at this stage of the season is pretty conclusive anyway. The relegation fight appears to start from 10th place Southend, who are only 9 points above the drop zone, while if Wealdstone win their four games in hand, they would go from 20th place to just outside the play offs. Locally, Dorking and Ebbsfleet could yet be playing us next season - though in what league is another matter...

It wasn’t a decision made by the club. York City’s shared ground is owned by the council and they took the decision on the basis that the game on Good Friday may be when Chesterfield are promoted. Obviously the fans aren’t happy and there is now talk of their new well monied owners (the one’s that failed to buy Yeovil) either buying the stadium from the indebted council or even building a new one.

I must admit that I haven't been closely following The National League since our disappointing performance last season. However, upon glancing at the current standings with most teams having played around 38-39 games, I can't help but notice the struggles faced by many teams that were promoted within the last three or four seasons. It appears that there's an ever widening gap between mid-table National League teams and the high-flying teams from the National South/North divisions. The Spending must have gone bonkers. And that's before you consider the top teams in the division. Take, for instance, Wrexham's situation, where they had to cut back on spending significantly after being promoted from that division due to facing regulation from the EFL. Shouldn't we consider implementing stricter Financial Fair Play / Sustainability regulations in The National League system? It seems illogical to me that a team could be promoted to a new division only to find themselves having to drastically reduce their spending. And speaks volumes about the absent regulation in the league below. I am aware of the movement to bring an independent regulator, but it seems clear that we need updated league rules as a matter of urgency. The problem of self interest in the existing governance, remains. For Board Members that are Directors of the clubs, there is no incentive to curb their own spending.

It’s wild that Ebbsfleet spent £20 million just to struggle in the National League.

It’s wild that Ebbsfleet spent £20 million just to struggle in the National League. Absolutely. I don't underestimate for a moment just how off the mark we were in 2022. But if these clubs, seemingly operating with no gate money budget constraints, can't manage it, expecting George to work miracles seems unfair. If we manage to secure promotion this season, I'll approach any expectations with great caution. Simply surviving would be a remarkable feat. Any promises of a top-10 finish (or budget) from the past are nothing more than wishful thinking.

Position Club Average attendance 14 AFC Flyde 1405 15 Eastleigh 2. 166 16 Maidenhead 1397 17 Woking 2643 18 Borehamwood 1114 19 Ebbsfleet 1568 20 Wealdstone 1451 21 Kidderminster 2782 22 Dorking 1914 23 York City 4558 24 Oxford City 947 Maidstone unitised 2033
Some of these attendance figures suggest that league has some dubious members, doesn't it? Only York is flying high, and can demonstrate a good spend on Higher-league livestock. Income must surely be DIRECTLY proportional to Bums-on-seats.

I don't understand why you would want to throw the amount of money away that some clubs do, just to struggle. Surely you'd be pushing for regulation? On the face of it, very unfortunate for York and Kidderminster, they deserve to be competitive.

It’s wild that Ebbsfleet spent £20 million just to struggle in the National League. The main problem to throwing money at promotion is that you will need that same money over and over again unless you go up again. We could spend £400k extra getting up but you need that to stay up again and again so unless you have a bottomless pit of money or can pay for it with your actual income, it's not worth spending extra money on.
