Frannie must be wondering what he has to do to please Jay. ....ERRRRRMMMM score goals ?[/quote] He was our best player last night, but needs some decent service. I lost count of the number of decent runs he made only for the ball to yet again go sideways or backwards only to once more be lumped forward straight to their massive centre halves. The double substitution was bewildering, we took of the only two players who looked like making something happen. Much as you all love Flish, he was poor last night and I would have replaced him rather than Bodders, and for all his pace does Akrofi give us much more than Frannie. As Ron Atkinson once said about Carlton Palmer, he can trap it further than I can kick it.

Think a little perspective is needed here. The girls in question certainly did not look 15 and judgeing by the things they said and shouted ,did not act like 15. It was good banter for from them and the other bloke with them but i think alcohol took over and it gradually got nasty.
I was told that the guys with these girls were actually being quite nasty to some of our fans long before it it reached a head although i never heard it myself.
I am in no way sticking up for anyone but there was a lot more to this than just has been quoted so far.

I'm sure I saw one of the Whitehawk defenders pull one of his own players hair while waiting for a free kick to come in. The referee then spoke to Jay May as though he had done it. Also their no 7 was screaming in pain before he was even tackled and the ref was conned by that as well. Having said that in the first half I thought they were as good as Ebbsfleet when they came to th Gallagher for the league match, it's a shame they felt the need to resort to all the cynical stuff.

Well I did manage to get to the game after all (albeit 20 minute late). I thought Whitehawk were a good side, and along with Truro on Saturday, are showing us how tough this league is and also that our current league position probably flatters us a bit. I actually thought we played okay and probably created enough that a draw would have been a fair result. They did rough us up in the second half and the ref let them get away with too much of that. Their game plan appeared to be to stop Jay May by wrestling him to the ground throughout the second half in particular, and you have to say, it worked as he just couldn't get into the game. I thought Frannie did quite well and we certainly look more likely to get in behind defences when he plays. I was slightly surprised we brought him off as early as we did, I'd have given him at least another 15 minutes. Akrofi still seems to lack a finish. Most important of all, I have to disagree with JDL about the chips. They were a little undercooked - a poor performance from the caterers who have as big a problem finishing the job, as the boys do on the pitch. Are you kidding me?? Frannie did one good pass for the 55 minutes that he played. Akrofi comes on and he held the ball up, ran at defenders and took a shot when he could. Frannie did none of that. How he gets in the team ahead of Akrofi is a joke. He has done nothing for us this season. Jay needs to off load him and free up some wages. You actually are on a wind up right? That's the only explanation for such a ludicrous post. Frannie was our best player first half, if only our midfield were a little bit more aware of what's happening in front of them instead of constantly passing sideways or back to Worgs so he can just hoof it long again. It's not just about what you do when you have the ball, and Frannie's movement was superb, it's just that the midfield is so reluctant to get the ball forward.

I'm mildly amused that in the middle of this thread there is one post claiming that we played too narrow and then the next one moaning that we were giving it too much wing play. As for the game...as much as we huffed and puffed, Whitehawk were simply a way better side than us. Their goal was superb and their passing, movement and control was the best I have seen us come up against in some time. As such I was left wondering why they chose to ignore their natural advantage and instead resort to disgusting tactics that relied heavily on the referee and his assistant not spotting the obvious. Today they were obliged with officials that were that useless. I'm guessing the games they lost were when the officials were competent. As has been said, I would not to want my side to play like that, especially when equipped with so much talent. If anyone can give me the number for the person that supplied the substance that led to the officials amazing second half decision to pull play from a corner back to a goal kick I would be grateful. Interesting to see what the ref would have done had we scored from that break rather than simply getting a corner. In all honesty, what advantage did we gain by Worgs kicking out of his hands rather than from a goal kick? Sometime common sense needs to prevail. The linesman on that side was rubbish throughout the game, getting at least two offsides completely wrong, and giving them a free kick for their player treading on the ball.

I'd like to hear young Trigger's views on that incident. Surely it if was a goal kick, the assistant should have remained in place at the other end continuing to signal for it?

Think all the players gave their all against a very physical and cynical side. We do lack that physical presence through the team as most sides are bigger than ours in this league. Agree with the comment about a little tinkering needed but JS knows the players better than us and has worked minor miracles with them. Also agree that Jack Paxman is being played too deep. IMO he should be the one linking midfield with the forwards and be allowed to wander forward more as he has the abilty to play that killer pass or turn a defender with one touch. As has been said before you can't blame the forwards for lack of goals if they aren't getting any decent service. Surely Joe or Rogo should be the ones protecting the back 4.

Well, this was the game that would show if we had what it takes for promotion this season. And the answer isn't one DaveU will like. Positives from the game? It wasn't windy. The chips were properly cooked for a change. The big bloke with the horn was back. Quite a few people around me enjoyed exchanging information about the latest Man U score all evening. I managed to get to Aldi just before it shut. And I had one of those scans today where they inject you with a radioactive isotope and you are radioactive for the next 24 hours, so it's a good job the Town End wasn't too crowded. So it was you affecting the scoreboard It was far more radioactive than me!

Our abysmal goal scoring record continues Chances created this season remain few and far between Our strikers get knocked and only Jay May can be satisfied with his goal tally so far. Frannie has been given few starts but remains the team's best goal poacher. It's hardly his fault if our play through midfield and out wide is mostly too pedestrian. So much of his movement and runs in the first half last night went unseen by others. There is no better finisher in the club, but he does need providers. What is this love affair with Akrofi ? He is not going to score goals at this level. Won't knock the guy, but he doesn't give the team anything like the goal scoring potential as if we played Frannie (or Flish) alongside Jay May. Would love to see Jack Paxman in a more advanced role doing his 'creative' work in the opposition half and at the edge of the box. Jack could be a real game changer, given the chance. He's done well enough playing in front of the defence, but not his best role in my view Jay Saunders has worked wonders so far this season and now he needs to conjure up some more magic.

Now now, nick, you're not allowed to criticise our goalscoring record. We clearly ARE scoring enough goals, anyone who dares to suggest otherwise is just being unreasonable and is wrong.
(Or something like that).

We need Paxman further advanced rather than tapping the ball around in the centre circle. You also need forwards that have the touch and movement to be able to play the one-twos round the box with him. This is what happened at Maidenhead. Browny needs to be given more chances because things livened up when he came on. It was pedestrian and obvious. No guile, no incision, no punch.

We were awful, the sooner we start playing rather than hoofing then we might have a chance. The reality is, we probably need a bit more quality in the longer term to do really well in this league and JS had alluded to that in his post-match comments. Our long stretch of clean sheets flattered us, I said at the time (as others did) that it couldn't last forever and that when it ended, we'd probably start to have a few problems due to the lack of goals. We were a bit lucky to win on Saturday, with only some great goalkeeping from Worgs and woeful finishing / defending at crucial moments by Truro allowing us to nick it towards the end. Ref. Frannie, I thought he took up decent positions and his general off-the-ball play around the box was very good, certainly far better than Birchall's but he wasn't getting the service he needed. Jay May couldn't get into the game and that didn't help as he wasn't getting knock-downs. Akrofi worked hard and managed to bully his way onto the ball a few times but to me he just never looks like he is going to finish, he seems to snatch at everything. Also, he is still a Teflon striker - with his back to goal, when the ball is played to him he just doesn't seem able to control it. I'd love to see him prove he can play at this level but for me, he is way off that at the moment. I felt a bit for Flish, he is working hard and because of his quality he is rightly starting but he looks like he's struggling to get back to his former fitness and form. You could see from his face in the second half that he is finding it tough. He has great mental character though and almost nicked us an equaliser at the end - I've no doubt at all that he will get back to where he wants to be, quite soon, and that will make a lot of difference.
