If we wanted a police officer we'd have to pay for them. A massive police bill was one of the things that finally sent the old club under back in the early 90's, and it pretty much killed the river festival too. Obviously one or two coppers isn't going to cost what we had to pay back then for a control tower full, but I doubt the club would want that extra expense at the moment. Maybe there would be enough people who wish to donate to a fund of some sort that pays for an improved stewarding team that can tackle this sort of nuisance before it becomes something worse (if indeed it would). I don't know, jayser, just exploring options....or being thick

Snitch there is presumably only a small minority of people doing this. If we continue to build it up as a massive problem on the forum then sponsors might indeed get the colley wobbles. Perhaps those concerned about it should be quietly reporting it to the club and asking Bill, Terry etc. if anything can be done instead of highlighting it on here. I know Bill reads this board, perhaps he could contact some of you to talk about your concerns and maybe form a plan of action to deal with it. It seems to me there are probably a small handful of fans who need a warning about the possibility of being banned if their behaviour doesn't improve. I don't personally stand in the town end, and so I'm not qualified to say how big the issue is beyond what I read on here but most seem to say it's only a small band of supporters causing the problem, so let's think about dealing with them and then moving on.
I don't think you can blame the club for not making a big issue of it either, given the damage that sort of thing can do.
There was a thread on the Tonbridge forum this week about a fan who called a player a 'mong' in front of a young lad with Downs Syndrome. This sort of thing goes on to some extent at a lot of football clubs and it is usually a few spoiling it for the majority. if the club starts making a big thing of it then we run the risk of marking ourselves out as a club with a real problem, when in reality we're unlikely to be any worse than most.

I think most people in the ground could hear it the other night, jayser. It was only a handful of people and I do think they were, genuinely, amused by what they were doing. I am not sure they really grasped how unamusing others found the entire 45min repetition. While I take your point I am not sure how much sway a forum such as this has. I don't think any serious sponsors would be that interested in the rubbish I, or others, write on here. I also think it is fair that we discuss all aspects of our club. However, I do agree that maybe we should be discussing it with the club as well. That way we might find solutions and then we will all be talking about a problem followed by that problem being dealt with. That would look really good.

As snitch said it was raised with the top steward/safety officer but nothing was done and it continued.
With regards to Tuesday nights culprit I'm sure his commanding officer at the local barracks would be pretty pissed off at the "banter" of one of his troops

Perhaps those concerned about it should be quietly reporting it to the club As mentioned I did Tuesday and nothing happened. Reading here somebody also reported it to the head of security and he didn't seem to do anything. There were photos taken of the racist at Dulwich and passed to the club with nothing of note happening with that. we've not even had a statement condemning this behavior only messages trying to sell us things. Then you read on here the head of security is happy to deal with a few older supporters standing in the wrong area at reserve games? There is something very wrong with the priorities here. How do you know nothing of note has been done? I'm sure the club has better things to do than tell all the supporters if one of their number has been warned about their behaviour for example. I would have thought this was something that would be dealt with confidentially with the individual(s) involved. It's all too easy to criticise the club and maybe sometimes we should take a step back and consider whether or not the criticism is justified.

This was something that required some sort of action at the time wether words or actions such as throwing the person out. Nothing was done at the time so anything done now seems a little remedial

Doing something now and publicising it would act as a public deterrent and statement of future intent by the club. Acting carefully then telling people would be entirely appropriate.

surely that is why we have the, so-called, response team at games? if the little bloke in the crocodile dundee hat is man enough to walk around with "head of security" emblazened over his jacket then he should be man enough to order the response team to go and drag these moronic individuals out, eject them from the ground and ensure they do not tarnish our club in future. the problem is that crocodile dundee doesn't give a toss and certainly doesn't have the qualities that his elevated title suggests the club knows this but refuses to do anything about it - in the same way they refused to act against the racist morons who followed us to Calais and the pissed up morons who spoilt the day out at Lowestoft last season - it's almost as if the perpetrators are known to certain high ranking officials at the club Had this exact conversation last Saturday. Banter is just another word for bullying really.

I'm called Softlad for a reason so there's no way I'm having a go. Everyone expects some swearing and general abuse of the opposition. I dislike the sustained bullying of kids, general racism and homophobia of which there is much from a relatively small number. I have also noticed that much of it is perpetrated by a small group who barely notice the match. They appear to regard the match as an opportunity to be abusive during their Saturday drinking session. This is one of the reasons that the atmosphere isn't always great at home games as they're often chatting and not watching the match. A lot of them also don't attend midweek games apart form Stevenage, as it's not a drinking night.

The club should pick 1 - 2 out of a group and ban them. They're not there for the football. All about the beer and crack with their mates. The Stewarts would get a bit of stick for 2-3 games but it would settle down after that.
I'm an adult, and use to industrial language, but I'd hate to be young or a parent around the Town End at times.
Sadly this is now what is required for the long term benefit of the club, and the younger generation. Nip it in the bud ASAP.
