I have to say I love these threads where everyone says how outraged they were at the time and yet, again, not one person spoke to them at the time.
Yes the stewarding leaves a hell of a lot to be desired at times but if all you're going to do is bleat on about it at last try and make a sodding effort to say something them. Point them out to a steward, someone did mention something to the head steward last night and the reaction was well if we go over they stop. If that happens someone point them out.
Please don't come on here week after week spouting how bloody bad it is without at least trying. There's a bigger world out there folks and sometimes it is just a little bit shit. It'll stay that way unless you try and make a difference

I saw 2 stewards talking to people at the othe side of the town end and they were looking over at them but nothing was said so people did try and do something but yes not enough done all round but surely this is a maidstone forum so we are allowed to talk about it or do you just want to start another argument on here about it at a time when people actually seem to agree for once

All I'll say is from reading your posts its become pretty apparent that you're determined to oppose anything anyone is saying. Especially NWS who seems to put you in your place a lot of the time. Only been on here a few days too, you're boring mate

Not looking for anyone to bite at all. You'll know when I am. I'll come down and speak to them myself next time. Just stop blithering on if you're not prepared to do anything.

I didn't go last night, so I'm only going by reports - and there are certainly some dickheads in the centre section of the Town End (we normally stand on the right, where it's a lot more civilised - and you can see better!) - but the "ooooooh - you're shit, aaahhh" thing with keepers has been going on since time began.
If, on one of my increasingly rare visits to Upton Park, I didn't hear the fans behind the goal chanting that I'd think something was wrong. It's surely part of the traditions of football? In fact barracking the keeper has always gone on and some might argue it's the job of the fans to try to put the keeper off.
Having said all that, another tradition at UP is that the home fans always applaud the away keeper as he walks towards to net. A 'tradition' I'd love to see at Maidstone.

As for approaching the dickheads or saying anything to them - what do you expect? I'm 61 and have never been in a fight in my life. I am not going to irritate some pissed up thug, egged on by his mates.
That's what we have stewards for. As many others have said, they should stop harassing the away fans (who never do anything to deserve it) and instead sort our own morons out.

It's not just down to the stewards, we should all make our feelings known.

Just politely ask could you kindly respect our visitors please gentlemen it might be all thats needed. But seriously it might be less inflammatory if it comes from a club stewart rather then a single courageous supporter.

Fully agree I was standing there last night, and I found the abuse boring after the .....first time. Unfortunately as I pointed out to my daughter who was with me, that there is always one master of wit who finds himself hilarious and will continue to say the same thing over and over again purely based on his mate sniggering the first time. At the end the afore mentioned individual just made himself look a prat and the decent supporters ignoring his childish abuse did the right thing.

i assume from reading all of the above that dispite the obvious disgust felt towards these morons that no one actually told them to shut the f**k up? At one point I did shout to the keeper to "Ignore those f*cking twats" from the left side of the end. Which was, of course, futile and passive-aggressive and just a way to make myself feel better about not having the bottle to go over and ask Balding Ginger Bloke and Edwardian Workingman Appreciation Society not to be pricks trouble is, there's a dozen different ways doing so could backfire, specially on your own. Reason with 3-4 lairy blokes (and the hangers-on who were laughing encouragingly) and you'd likely get sent away with jeers and that "justabitabanterrrr" crap. Get abusive and aggressive yourself and it could well be you rather than they (as the "instigator" of any bother) who get booted out or even banned. If people are going to self-police it's got to be a larger group, because as others have pointed out the stewards don't seem interested.
Afraid this must seem like daft pearl-clutching to those who weren't there - keepers get grief every game, it's part of the joy of non-league football that you can rattle and put off players due to being so close to them, and like most others I'll do a bit of it myself during your average game. It was more the disproportionate scale of the thing that riled people; it's one thing to roar stuff at an experienced bloke like Chris Day when he takes a goal kick during a valuable, hard-fought game, and another to concentrate all your venom on a reserve team kid of about 16-17 for 45 minutes, during a League Cup game which was a foregone conclusion after about 20 minutes. Screaming the same bloody thing all the time, too, no jokes or whatever, just pointless hate. Because of the context of the thing, it didn't actually remind me of anything I've seen at the football before, it was more like the arseholes who like to abuse people behind the counter in Wetherspoons or McDonald's on a Saturday night, just because they can.
Depressing, because it's a difficult thing to fix.
