Don't really understand the "FA Cup is a distraction, league is paramount" thing. I'd like us to go up, but I'd rather see us get to the 3rd round of the cup, or even further. If that means we miss out on promotion this year then so be it. Each to their own of course. I agree, Jay and the team can have a bit of a free pass for the rest of the season as far as I'm concerned now Unrelated - anyone find out quite why we had a Premier League referee doing our game yesterday? I think the ref was Lee Probert who refereed this years Cup Final. The question is why was he there ?

If a tie was switched to Priestfield, I wonder how much we would have to pay Scally? I don't suppose he's going to make it cheap.

You cannot switch games anymore due to a rule change

You cannot switch games anymore due to a rule change You can only move it on safety grounds if the police say so. However, if we drew Arsenal and were told to switch we'd have to look at a suitable stadium near us before switching to the Emirates. If it was switched gate receipts would still be worked out as if it were at Whatman Way. So if we switched to the Emirates the money would be split as if it was from a 2300 capacity. The rest would go to an FA pot. I'm sure somebody will tell me I'm wrong but that's how I read it. All actually down to Stevenages manager from when he was at Farnborough.

Would there be any way of temporarily increasing the capacity in case of a massive 3rd round tie. I know there is a planning application for an extra turnstile.
I'm sure smaller clubs than ours (Warrington) have increased the capacity of their ground for big games. Maybe some temporary terracing or a temporary entrace/exit and more stewards. A 3rd round tie against a Premier League team would surely be televised so the money would be available.
From what I've heard drawing a Premier League team away in the 3rd round, can generate almost £600,000 in gate receipts and TV money.
Just need to get there first.COYS

He is recovering from injury and hasn’t officiated at the premier level since the cup final and this was part of his recuperation…..I thought he was excellent throughout & you can tell the difference

tjh that is basically correct, an away tie against a top Premiership club would be the best financial result for us by a long, long way. We'd have more that enough money to build the stand extension if that happened. Even a modest crowd at a ground like Old Trafford, and reduced admission (which would be a possibility given the fact we'd be a relatively unattractive fixture for their fans), would result in a sizeable six figure pre-tax sum coming our way. Live TV would be a definite, as the media would not pass up the chance to cover a Step 7 side playing a big Premiership club, live.

The chap we had for the Stevenage Replay was on a different planet classwise to the some of the dross we get week in week out in the league.

My £600,000 estimate sounds a bit poultry now. They draw 0-0 at home on TV then played a Old Trafford on TV, is that right? Surely we would prefer a massive away tie if we get to the 3rd round? They would effective pay for all the ground improvements we would need in the next 5/6 years.

No, just put a cage in by the steps! In all seriousness if it wasn't segregated for Stevenage, why would it be for Chelsea or Man U? They will still only get 300 tickets, and a club like that would surely use them for their 'better known supporters' Or am I an old cynic?
