Since 2008/09 he's scored 11 goals and picked up 15 yellow and 2 red cards.

This thread is getting very weird.
But, to get back to FOOTBALL...
If, like Rooney you are within a gnat's knickers of scoring but get dragged to the ground by a Neanderthal who should clearly not be on the pitch (I might have made some of that up), it's only natural to want to finish the job and put the ball in.
But the captain has a list of 'official' penalty takers, and you are not on it. Wouldn't the captain be allowed (even expected) to exercise a bit of humanity at that point and let you take 'your' penalty? And wouldn't his manager understand and agree with the decision (especially if you are 2-0 up with seconds to go)?
If the answer is 'yes', then clearly something went wrong Tuesday night. Zac was obviously so aware of the bollocking he got for not following orders last time, that he daren't do it again - even though the situation was very different.
In which case, the manager is the one at fault - his man-management skills are a little lacking. The captain should have a clear idea of what his job is, what the rules are, and what the manager expects.
I bet Jay was sitting there and thinking "oh fúck, I'd like Rooney to take it, why did I make such a fuss Tuesday night?".

Rooney should of taken it end off !!! As for Jay not a clue ! Misuse of the words 'of/off' TWICE in just 7 words. True class. What has this go to do with the topic? And for your attention, your username needs an apostrophe in it, as the legs are your possession.

I was just impressed - it takes something special to get English THAT wrong.
They are not my legs! (And ProBoards don't allow apostrophes in names - but don't let that little technicality bother you.)

11 years of compulsory schooling and people still don't know how to use their own language.
And that doesn't bother you?

Hang on let's get back to the FOOTBALL side of this thread, because that's what John insists on. Shame he can't do it himself.

Still, Rooney is (with all respect) a player who is capable of playing at a higher level than what Maidstone is in right now. He might annoy people in the dressing room etc, but if he keeps performing on the pitch then people will overlook it I suspect. Are you pro or anti Kevin Pietersen?

He might annoy people in the dressing room etc, but if he keeps performing on the pitch then people will overlook it I suspect. Are you pro or anti Kevin Pietersen? I think with Pietersen he hasn't consistantly done it on the pitch for a while and add to the fact he can only play one way - ie, attack, attack, attack, has made him a complete liability. During the last Ashes, we needed him to play a it more sensible and not throw his wicket away going for glory all the time. Although the entire team struggled, the rest were at least team players. Maverick players when not winning games by themselves will always find themselves scapegoats. Add to the dubious form the "textgate" issue and there is maybe a lack of goodwill in the team to tolerate him anymore. In not being offered a new contract, I think the changing room will be a lot more united and playing together. In comparision with Rooney, I don't think Rooney is the sort to actively slag off his captain etc. In terms of crimes that will annoy his team mates, I don't think forcefully wanting to take a penalty is going to turn the dressing room against him. Plus the fact Rooney is playing a level or two lower than what he should be will probably mean he shouldn't find himself out of form too often. He might want to be the star man all the time, but at your level, he should be able to put in those sort of performances regularly and back up his self confidence.

He wanted it, he was keen but he wasn't (apostrophe for the message board police) the designated penalty taker, no more to it than that. As a striker why wouldn't you take it thats your job. As Jay said rather have a few want it than none.
