The all-importabnt bit from the Sutton website is:
"So this is a good time to confirm that Sutton United has submitted a proposed rule change to the Skrill Football Conference, which has been seconded, that would allow clubs in the competition to play games on approved 3G surfaces."
Let's just hope the suits listen

Fingers crossed they will, but for anybody who doesn't suscribe to Twitter you will have missed Oliver's "spat" with the Conference twitter person !....
Conference: It seems that heavy rain this morning on the North has caused a number of later postponements. 3G4US: This is the 4th football schedule schedule in a row badly disrupted by rain;3G is a solution - adopt it Conference: You have valid points which are not lost but do not drive clubs into defensive positions. Talking is what democracy is about 3G4US: Only since we at MUFC stood up more strongly for benefits of 3G in Non League have you agreed to talk to us.
I didn't understand the quote regarding forcing clubs into defensive positions? As far as I'm aware Oliver is suggesting all clubs use it

The FA and Conference bend rules to suit. What a massive favour they did to Chester City, they should of been demoted back several leagues, like many clubs before and a few since.
Not 3g related ,but shows the Conference don't stick to there rules
Why did they only drop them one league, when rules are rules, they bent there own rules to suit Chester , and then the Conference decision makers had to suffer the humiliation of seeing Chester fold half way through the following season.

There was a good discussion about 3G pitches on Talksport this afternoon with the MD of Pitchcare. Can only help the cause as even he conceded that artificial pitches have come on a long way since inception.

Just a little add on as i'm getting a bit annoyed at some of the supporters and managers on other forums/ Articles questioning the impact / injuries 3G may cause.
If there is a question mark over the long term effects then why does nearly all schools have or play on it now, having been to a girls year 7/8 tournament this evening with 6 schools playing on an artificial surface, it is obviously not only sanctioned by the schools but the education authority and so in turn the government health and safety executive.
And all these so called experts are quite happy for their teams to train on it.
In conclusion I spend far too much time looking at other teams message boards.

And my local rugby club train on a full 3G surface every week, ironically because the usual pitches a unplayable in winter! Saracens play lay top level rugby on a 3G pitch every week too.

This question mark will be resolved by more information. This is a question is best answered by scientists. Are there any studies people know of in this field?

This has been looked into in a FIFA study referenced on page 19 of the League's consultation paper on artificial surfaces (link below). The study found no difference in the level of risk of injury between grass and 3G. The leagues paper is worth a read in general, it was positive about 3G and recommended it's adoption, which was put to a vote of league clubs. They rejected it with the exception of just two clubs who were in favour as I recall. www.football-league.co.uk/staticFiles/89/9d/0,,10794~171401,00.pdf

League one and the championship rejected it but league two were in favour by a majority of 2 I think.
