Think I'm right in saying Saturday will be our first game with an Enfield team since 1989? Had some great games with them in the 80s and they seemed to have a bit of a sign over us, but a 3-0 away the year we won the APL sticks in the mind and a 3-2 at London Road after we were 2-0 down, with the mighty Jesse Roast hitting the winner.

How about the 3.1 away win late in the 85/6 season when Enfield were champions and we stayed up (over Wycombe Wanderers) on goal difference

Think I'm right in saying Saturday will be our first game with an Enfield team since 1989? We played Enfield Town in a behind closed doors friendly back on 16th January 2010, winning 4-1 (Hawkins, Rowland, Hockton & Odunaike)

Why was it behind closed doors? Easier to police?

The word is 'manage' not police! Could get the army in!

Yeah, I thought I'd steer clear of that whole "AFC" trouble we had a few years ago. Remember one game in the mid 80s when we scored in the last minute, thought we'd finally beaten them and then they equalised in injury time! Not forgetting the fact that they sent us up by beating (or drawing?) with Kettering in 1989.

I seem to remember a midweek game against Enfield at London Road in the late 80s which got abandoned due to heavy rain and very disgruntled fans queuing for refunds/voucher tickets immediately after it was called off. But yes, the away match at Enfield in our Conference winning season was also memorable. Peter Taylor was their manager and England's non-league skipper David Howells their skipper. Also, the bulbs in their floodlights at their old ground used to spell out the Club's initials (E,T,F,C) or similar, one in each corner of the ground.

Have to be honest, I thought it was Donny wot hit the winner......but it was a long time ago.....

I only saw four matches in 1988/89, due to the wife living in London, but home v Enfield was one of them. According to my programme (always to hand to assist with such queries) we drew 1 -1 away and won 3 - 1 at home (Golley, Charlery, Ashford - attendance 1,341). But now I see Mr Rash wasn't necessarily referring to our last season in the Conference, but to 87/88, when we did win 3 -2 (Roast, Donn, Roberts). I was there but don't have the programme* - the system has broken down! So I can't tell you who scored the winner - bet Bryan could though. The attendance was 1,228, quite interesting as we were doing well at the time.
*If anyone has and would like to sell it, I'm your man!

Could have been Donny in fairness, he hit a few rockets. It was a seriously awful game until the last 15 minutes. Paul Furlong scored for Enfield and the gate was indeed 1228 - given we were two of the best teams in the country outside the FL it puts the 1500 we got for an RPL game against Thamesmead into a very flattering light.

Just had a look at my old programmes for games versus Enfield and have found 3. I would have seen all of these as I've never bought a Stones home programme for a game not been at. They are: 14.12.83 - Bob Lord Trophy 2nd Round, 2nd Leg 18.11.67 - Isthmian League 09.04.66 - Isthmian League. We won that 2-1
Can't remember any of these as memorable games.
