Right or wrong, I am given to understand that the club has reinstated the wheelchair provision within the Main Stand as from today.
Not sure who was behind the change of mind, but if true (as it appears to be) that is good news.

That’s good. With the TV camera relocation, could it be expanded?

Maybe they read the forum. Either way, good news

Apparently 'Level Playing Field' and Alan Manchett had a hand in the club revisiting this issue.

That’s good. He puts his name to the stand.

That’s good. He puts his name to the stand. If Manchett behaved correctly in this matter then please Lord give him the money and will to take us over completely and restore the club we love!

What I don’t understand is why the owners don’t look at the possibility of expanding the main stand and joining it onto the Genco stand. There is a lot of land there and should easily be able to install toilets, food outlets, bars, etc.. underneath the stand. This could then be used for the away fans. Away entrance is already there so that’s not an issue. That would solve the away fans issue.

One of the features of the hospital on Hermitage Lane was that it was built in a modular style allowing sections to be added on in due course, I'm not sure if that happened in the end, but you'd imagine that future development of the ground was considered in the planning of the Genco and the extension of the main stand...

The amount it would cost to fill in the corner, you could probably build a whole new stand on one of the two undeveloped sides.

I understand from the blueprint that the idea was to build a bigger and better Genco at the Town End with changing rooms, catering, bars etc So the Manchett Stand could be extended. The Genco can easily be widened if need be. Not to mention the relatively new narrow 4 tier stand on the riverside. Basically it allows for future proofing to the EFL but I'm not at all sure any of us will be around to see it.

It did happen - the hospital was extended quite a bit northwards. Looks awfully dated now though...

The Genco can easily be widened if need be. Not to mention the relatively new narrow 4 tier stand on the riverside. Basically it allows for future proofing to the EFL but I'm not at all sure any of us will be around to see it. Any substantial further development (eg a TE super-Genco, and extension of the MS), will be very expensive - probably more than the total already spent on the ground. So, where would that money come from? There's only two ways to do that: a sugar daddy or a massive increase in gates. I wouldn't want the first (we all know how it would end), and I suspect the latter is rather unlikely. What we have now is pretty much adequate for NL football - it's a future (if unlikely) step up to the EFL that will be the problem. If that happens, we are limited by two things we can do little or nothing about: the compact nature of the site, and the EFL requirements - together they are the proverbial 'perfect storm'. With no spectators standing around the pitch, and a greater need for seats, our capacity would be cut overnight. So, as we can't expand the ground, we would pretty much have to replace the TE - at the same time as losing the income from the 3G, and having the extra costs for training, etc. I can see us becoming a regular NL club, but I'm afraid I think progress beyond that is unlikely - without someone daft enough to sink another 2 or 3 million into the club.

If we were to extend the main stand towards the Genco, it would involve the demolition of the Spitfire Lounge, changing rooms and academy classrooms, all of which would have to be moved to a new stand on the town end. There isn't enough room underneath the MS for any of these, and there certainly isn't enough room behind the MS, unless we moved the road.
If I had a lot of money but for some reason didn't want to build an entire new stadium, I would extend the MS to the Genco, widen the Genco, build a 2000 capacity seated stand like the one behind the goal at Woking which would contain all the facilities, and finally build a 2000 capacity terrace on the riverside like the terrace at Torquay. This would give us a 7200 capacity, perfect for hosting Birmingham City in the League one playoffs. All pie in the sky of course...

Surely to extend northwards from the MS just means demolishing the police portakabin. The facilities mentioned are all on the south side.
