Of course if they turn out to be like Jephte or Levi or Mo it could change our season but we can never seem to hang on to loaner players like that so the joy is always short lived.

Not writing them off - they may turn out to be just what we need - just disappointed- again- that we can’t seem to recruit - or keep - great players when we have a manager and an assistant with premier league and EFL pedigree, nor re-sign good players (Mo) nor keep good loanees (Jephte)
Do we pay so low that we can only get such average players or is there something about the club or management that puts them off?
Aaron Blair seems to be the only exception.
If it’s just money then yes this is our lot in life I suppose but it’s teeth grinding to see us as poorer and less attractive than Worthing and others we should as a club be better than.

Mo was on loan from Havant and Waterlooville and I think he is based in that area, he said when he was with us that he found the 2 hour commute to and after training a strain particularly during Ramadan so for him Worthing is better option for him unfortunately. With Jephte we couldn't compete with Ebbsfleet which is not a surprise. Hopefully George's latest recruits and judging by his latest interview they won't be the last bring an upturn in our fortunes

Exactly this. We are the very lowest full time level. Nobody proven will drop down. Our signings are on the way up, or down. Apart from the odd gem, we are all competing for the same players. If anyone shines, they’ll soon be on their way out.

Playing well today though.

Two of the new signings looked decent today. Papadopoulus particularly impressed until he got injured and was subbed off. Trusty replaced him and didn’t disappoint. Lodovica maybe needs more time to settle in. I’m not gonna judge him on one game. He won a few headers and had a few decent touches but he doesn’t seem to have the instinct to find good positions in the box. As I said, maybe he needs a couple of games to get used to how we play.

Spot on - but isn't that really his entire job??

He impressed me a couple of times today when he just ghosted in and appeared almost from nowhere, but he didn't follow that up by doing anything worthwhile. The rest of the time he just seemed lost. I'm assuming he was just not match fit, but, if so, why did George keep him on so long?

The straw I'm clinging to at the moment is that I found Faal (and even Amantchi) similarly frustrating at times in early games, but I'm far from convinced by this comparison...

This is a report from a Chelmsford fan about him, it doesn't make for great reading.

I'm really sorry, but he's dreadful.

We had him for a season as a project. We lacked the budget for a Striker so converted him from a winger based on the fact he's tall and reasonably fast.

Trouble was, he can't head the ball. When balls were played up to him he wouldn't even jump to challenge for it even though he was taller than most defenders. He'd do that annoying thing where he'd just lean into the defender and then get beat time and time again. I don't remember him ever even challenging for a header from a corner. If the ball comes to him and he's completely on his own he can head it. I seem to recall one good assist away at Staines from him when he flicked it on to our onrushing midfielder. If the balls played into his feet he holds it up a bit better, but really only to the minimum level you'd expect for a "striker" at this level.

As I say, we tried to convert him to being a Striker and one of the reasons we and he failed is because he's one of the worst finishers i've ever seen. Literally no composure. He'd just aimlessly hit it at the keeper, or more usually, high and wide.

The only reaaon he played 30 times (a lot from the bench) was a stubborness to make the conversion work. Apparently he's a good kid with a great attitude but he's just no good i'm afraid. I see at Aveley and Inveness he carried on as a "Striker" and he's seemingly signed as one for you. But, he should do himself a favour and give being a winger ago again....probably at Isthmian North level eventually.

Some cutting edge criticism maybe, but often mixed up with some proper humour.

He was never boring and never sounded like he hated the club.
