Number of subs?

Some time ago, I was told (I forget by who) that we were going to have 5 subs this season - is this correct?

I have tried to find this out, but failed. The FA rules say it depends on the competition, but I can't find anything specifically about the NL. A few years ago, NL clubs voted for 5 subs, but didn't get the necessary 75% majority, so it stayed at 3. I can't find out if this has changed for this season. And, if it has, is it just for the NL, or NS and NN as well?

Anyone any the wiser?

They were aligning with the Leagues above, meaning 7. Haven’t heard anything this side of the league finishing though so not sure if it wer decided or up confirmation

I might be wrong but I think seven subs with five being used if needed was voted out by some clubs because of costs and they are going with five with all being used if needed.

I have it from an insectine source of impeccable reliability (of sorts) that it's 5 out of 7 for the NL this season - as per the EFL. But I can't find out if this applies to us as well - ie is it the whole NL, or just the NL part of the NL? What references I've got to this apparently well-kept secret all say level/tier five - which I take to mean NL only (ie not us).

Apparently, it was the smaller NL clubs that stopped this last time (2022, I think) because they thought it would give the bigger/richer clubs an advantage. So, that would imply that there's going to be even more opposition to it at NS level. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if there's seven on the bench on Saturday...

One thing I didn't know, though (because I don't watch football outside the NS), is that, even with 5 subs from 7, you still can't make 5 separate substitutions. You can only make 3 in a game (plus half-time) - so, to use all five, you have to make at least one double sub. I suppose this makes sense - to avoid mega-time wasting.

Shades of American Football, where the goal kicker (think coversion of the try/touch down) is a specialist who does just that and can often have no other on field role.
We could have specialist free kick, corner or throw in takers, plus a line of fat blokes who only come on when there is wall for free kicks.😭

That was the rule in the FA cup last year. You can use 5 subs but only on 3 separate occasions. Puzzled me at first as I was surprised that Barrow made changes when I thought they’d already used all their subs.

American 'football' is VERY American! It's a lesson the the FA/FIFA/etc not to let something equally silly happen to real football. Although, a lesson, I fear they are ignoring...

This was the case in the Championship as well. You could make up to five subs but only three exchanges could occur during play so half time doesn't count, so in theory you could bring on three subs during the game and the other two before the second half kicks off. Cup competitions introduce more vagueness as you can have another one if a game goes to extra time and likewise if someone is substituted as a concussion precaution. I imagine anyone going off for that reason will be subjected to a mandatory break from footy for assessment.

I'm Not too sure actually, I know they were trying to increase, I'm hoping so just so Bug squad sizes can be encouraged and more players can get playtime

The odd thing is that there definitely weren't 7 on each bench at any time! In fact the benches seemed mostly pretty empty.

I think the rule is, 5 on bench and you can bring them all on.
