My - half-Hungarian - house has gone mad! Two women who know nothing about football and (usually) care even less, explaining the Hungarian goal to me in detail! Apparently it was the best goal ever... From a German called Kevin! I tried to explain that I knew exactly what it felt like to lose a vital match to a last minute goal. But to no avail. I don't remember them being this interested when I (eventually) got home from bloody Worthing... Better to have weird celebrating Hungarians than for the deluded Scots to actually qualify. I don’t get this thing where we’re supposed to be pleased when the Scots (or Welsh) do well. You’ll never see them supporting England. Exactly! They love to see us fail, so it should be the same feeling in return. They are no great loss from a major tournament. Scotland get battered everywhere they go....

I got increasingly frustrated with their refusal to go forward for 80 minutes

He is right but VAR is there to help the ref not making this error so I'd blame the Spanish VAR chap rather than the ref.

It took quite a while for the ball to go dead afterwards and I fully expected him to hold it up. I thought it was offside at the time - that was never addressed either. Maybe they checked it?

Didn’t you put them right, Sword? There is no point trying to point out to a Mangle that he is a pratt as its the one thing in life he is already certain of. Sadly though despite winning on penalties tempers boiled over and it all kicked off in the pub with several punches thrown and people being barred fir life. Ho hum!☹

Ultimately, the best team won. Maybe the FA should take a look at the way the England cricket team have been going about things and get in a manager willing to take risks. Isn't it better to lose a few (we do anyway) by being adventurous, than playing safe and scraping through, only to fall at the last hurdle? The talent appears to be there, but just isn't used properly. Anyway, not long before we can watch 'proper' football again.😇

Pickford needs to sort out his distribution or be dropped. Every aimless punt just gave the ball back to Spain. When we had the ball we were so bloody slow to do anything with it and couldn’t hang on to it for more than three passes. Contrast that with Spain’s crisp and accurate passing that had England chasing shadows for most of the game. Twice in the whole game England showed what they are capable of and both times they had Spain in trouble, but even after the equaliser they sat back, did what they always do under Southgate and allowed Spain to dictate the game.
Kane has been a passenger the whole tournament and should probably retire from the national team and if we’re serious about ever winning anything Southgate needs to go as well, and the new manager needs to give the likes of Watkins and Palmer a proper run in the team, not just as substitutes when we need to make something happen.

Inability to control a ball and pass is a real problem for England. Refusal to take risks has been an England manager thing for decades. It was frustrating that having equalised through upping our game, we just sat back again.

It could have been 4 or 5, especially second half when Spain started showing a bit of composure in the final third.
