One thing I will add, everyone moans about the youth of today blah blah blah, look what the older generations have done to the Country! No one can be bothered to do anything other than complain on social media or set up a petition. Myself included. I’ve always voted against the Tories but it made no difference around here. I’ve lost interest in politics. A bit like watching Liverpool, I just watch from the sidelines and hope they lose. There’s just a general acceptance of how shit everything is. No one has the motivation to do anything other than find someone to blame. That’s what this issue, the small boats issue, and most of these “viral” problems are, there to sidetrack you whilst the Politicians syphon money off, do a shit job and set themselves up for life after politics. We have a saying in my family. “The French would be burning cars by now”. The British equivalent to this is the online petition.

I agree about the cross but probably not of your definition of English. People who have a problem with immigrants should remember that we are a nation descended from French, Germans, Romans, Scandinavians etc....probably only a trace of ancient Brits in any of our DNA. Even the word English derives from the Angles that migrated here. True enough but at least they invaded us,we didn't invite them in like today. Who exactly did the Romans invade ? Who is 'us' exactly ? Do you mean the Mid Europeans that moved here after the Romans left (known as Anglo Saxons) ? Surely not the Vikings and then the Normans who put down their roots too. Then of course the million or so Irish in the 19th century fleeing the potato famine. Later on joined by those from the Caribbean and Indian sub continent in the mid 20th century, driven by labour shortages and the legacy of empire. Joined more recently by an even broader mix of people from all over. We are such a mixed up bunch 'us' English and none the worse for it imo. I have no idea of where I came from and couldn't care less.

The Romans couldn't be arsed to go any further than Shrewsbury, so the remains of the 'Brits' of the day are the Welsh. So, if we follow the logic of kicking out all the immigrants since 0 AD, the bloody Welsh will end up with the whole country! *and the Cornish

What always makes me smile, is that (generally speaking) the people who are most vocal about immigration tend to be the ones who reminisce most about when Britain effectively controlled a significant proportion of the planet. Anyway, back to the topic in hand, I think that whilst what power an independent regulator will be able to wield (and I point to the toothless similar bodies such as Ofwat, Ofcom and the Information Commissioner) I think we can all agree that it will struggle to be worse than what we have at the moment: - A PL board that won't deal with serial financial doping.
- An EFL board that would rather throw clubs out of the league than deal robustly with dishonest owners.
- A NL board that suppresses self-commissioned reports into its own financial decision making processes.

The Premier league and its legal department will make sure the new body is a monumental waste of time.

The néw shirt and flag motif is an insult to the few English people left living in this country. Why don't we just change the name of the country and have done with it . Before you all call me racist I don't care,I love my country and the fact that when I'm dead and gone it will slide into non existence and all of your families and their children will be hopelessly lost in a land that is no longer theirs. I have no children and I've never been more relieved of that fact.😪 And while people stay focused on foreigners being the problem, the bankers, greedy owners of capital, in alliance with the corrupt government continue to make life worse for the majority. There are much worse things coming over the horizon. I'm pretty sure the 2010 shirt had different coloured flags on it but nobody worried much. Since 2016's stirring of nationalistic tendencies, everybody gets really angry about a flag...a flag that is entirely disrespected by those that tell you to get angry about it. I can say this. I'm not a true blood Englishman.

When the election comes up I'll put my criss by the green party and the Tories will still win by 30,000 votes so whether I like it or not greedy bankers and corrupt MP's will remain.

The less we talk nonsense about flags etc - talk purely designed to tap into tribal emotions - and more about those boring things like unfair tax cuts, unfair funding, rule breaking etc the more a light is shone on the people causing your life to be diminished.

Maybe so but neither of us will still be able to change things. They've changed the Maidstone constituency boundary from this election. Bizarrely, it still doesn't include the whole town, but we've lost the Weald and gained West Malling, and that side of town (this may not be entirely accurate, as I can't find a reliable map!). The Weald pretty much ensured a permanent huge Tory majority, so losing it could make a big difference. West Malling (etc) isn't exactly a socialist stronghold, either, but it's a little less extreme-Tory than the Weald. So Maidstone is still down as a definite Tory win, but the majority will be significantly lower, and with the current disastrous government (and our MP's complete lack of any sort of local profile), that majority could be even lower. Realistically, there'll almost certainly be another safe Tory majority, but if the Liberals could only get their act together, Maidstone might be winnable - perhaps not this time, but maybe in 5 years? Also this year, they've changed the local council voting system. Until now, one third of the council has been elected each year (with the County Council election in the 4th year), but from 2024 the whole council stands for reelection (or not) once every 4 years. This may sound like an unimportant change (and personally, I've never worked out which approach is better!), but, as the change is happening at a time when the Tories are so unpopular, we could end up with quite a different local council - with more Liberals than Tories, and even a renewal of the local Labour party's fortunes - and that change will last for the next 4 years. (In the past, Liberals have occasionally managed to run the council, but they've been constantly under threat of losing councilors each annual vote.) Anyway, if you're registered in Tonbridge, none of this applies!

This, of course, should not be in the football section!

Well, there is a politics thread, if only people would use it. 😆
