I have never at any stage said that 6ft plus keepers are not ideal, my beef is that Grover refuses point blank to believe that anyone who is under 6ft can do just as good a job, which they can. Not just under 6ft is it though, its 5ft 9. You are still wrong, if you are good enough you are tall enough.

From a purely personal perspective, I find this most unfair.
By the late-60s I was 6' and towered over most other kids. But these days I am only 5'11" and probably about average height.
So now, through no fault of my own, my goalkeeping career is over.
Bastards.

Or maybe you stopped growing as a child?

Not just under 6ft is it though, its 5ft 9. You are still wrong, if you are good enough you are tall enough. If that were true then we would see thousands of keepers under 6ft. But we dont do we, so by being short means your not good enough. To put it a way for you to try and understand, in the UK the average man according to the internet is 5ft 9. Now take all the males in the uk (32 million to chose from) and select the top 1000 in terms of goalkeeping abilities. Now of those 1000 the average height is 5ft 9 as were looking at just the goalkeeping technique. Now take the average prem keeper at 6ft 3 (thats 6 inches taller than the average man) So if height had nothing to do with it we would see goalkeepers 6 inches under the average height at 5ft 3. So as you say "if your good enough your good enough" was true, then we would see goalkeepers of all heights. But we dont, even the short keepers are much taller than the average man. Where top athletes are so finely tuned these days, you can't give up any advantage and still expect to compete at a professional level. Look at other sports, rugby your physical size will determine what postions you play. Motorsport your height and weight are crucial. Goalkeepers are no different.

I've enjoyed the pile on because I was never really in the goalkeeper debate but if all of you have no other reason as to why our defenders are doing better this season than last season then you really know very little about our fine game🤣🤣🤣 Is it because the teams we're playing against this season aren't as good as the teams we played last season? Just a wild guess on my part. Yay. Stewart provides some sense

Remind me again how many he let in Tuesday night, was it 3,4 or 5 even oh no that's it it was a clean sheet. I am not arguing your point that 95% of keepers are over 6 ft tall, your figures explain that. My point is that smaller keepers can do the job if given the chance. Years ago you had to be 6ft tall to be a policeman and now they come in all shapes and sizes but that doesn't make them any less a policeman/woman.

Grovie has to be right. We had a useless keeper who got defended by the usual suspects on this forum. Having to play in front of him shredded players confidence. Actually we had two poor keepers. My defence of Mersin was purely based on the premise that Hadler wasn’t any better and was only popular because of bantz with the Genco.

Mersin got picked because he was over 6ft tall, therefore he must've been brilliant . Forget Mersin swordy, what about Lucas Covolan ? Not an ounce of Englishness, born and bred in Brazil and carries an Italian passport. Even worse, he's 6'4" and by your reckoning completely the wrong height for being a decent keeper. But he ain't doing too bad for an over-tall foreigner imo ! The usual Nick hyperbole. Sword has been arguing that there are good keepers under 6ft and that people under 6ft can play in goal. He hasn't said people over 6ft can't play there. You've applied your own arguments about under 6ft keepers to Sword, revering th height thing anf then tried to claim something he didn't say. Making yourself, as ever, look foolish to anyone with a cortex that functions in an OK manner.

So does that make him a better keeper ? According to the likes of Grover and Nick, he is a better keeper if he is 5ft 11 rather than 5ft 9

I'd love to see the Genco singing 'One Davey U' or 'England's number one' to you. Imagine the offers you could get if they start singing that Lee Worgan ditty from a few years ago?
