On a positive note, Amantchi took his goals very well. He did exactly what we were screaming out for Alabi to do last year - big and strong, used his frame well, great feet and what a finish. Few more of those please, Levi!

Interesting comment about Gavin. I do not think he is playing as well as he did 2 seasons ago. He is now beaten for pace too often and does not support the attack as much as he used to. If he is out injured it will be interesting to see if Brown is an improvement.
Kelly may not be a physical midfielder but I was impressed by his his passing and dead ball kicks. We need a creative player in midfield but wide players to receive the ball, the recipe that worked so well with Luque and Booty.

Only my second game of the season but not sure there's a great deal to be excited about so far. There's flashes from certain players, particularly Ezennolim, but I'm not sure where the goals are coming from - Amantchi struck the goal well but I'm not sure what other defence is going to allow him what seemed like two minutes to turn and get it on his favoured foot. In all, he reminded me of James Alabi in really not being as effective as you thought he should or could be.
Despite that, I would agree that the game changed when Corne went off. Until then, we didn't look in real danger but once he had gone Taunton got into it much more. I would like to see their goal again as Covolan seemed to react quite slowly to the flick on.
As for Hoyte, he does look a bit spent and, I know he has his fans, but although Brown is quick and athletic, his distribution long or short is pretty woeful.

Ezennolim is a superb recruitment. Exciting going forwards and one of very few who can beat defenders for fun. We are incredibly good at recruiting left backs but consistently poor in recruiting in centre midfield. Doesn't matter who the manager is, we are a wing-back and wingers only team. If the opposition shut out the channels we are devoid of ideas on how to score.

Still think Hoyte can do a job at right back, but no longer able to be a wing back, so if he continues, we need a right winger or a more creative midfield, or both!

Enezollim looks really good signing , good pace beats his man one on one . Sole,Reynolds,Aransibia,De Graft , Gurung way off the quality currently a couple of these new signings need to break through fairly quickly De Graft was a passenger yesterday ,wingers are not producing chances. Obi is not good enough. Project George ? What is this ?Has he explained the plan because I’ve not heard it if so . Hoping we burst into life soon but can’t see it currently , are these signings good enough is going to be the defining question.

It was only two seasons ago that we had a central midfield of Phillips, Booty and Corne - the best I can remember in years, with the right mix of stamina, bite and creativity. Agree with others that Gurung looked lost yesterday, leaving Corne with far too much to do given Aransibia ahead of him was drifting all over the place. De Graft worried me - I only remember him beating his man once all game. Long balls up to him seemed to follow a pattern of him taking a decent first touch then immediately conceding possession to their left back.

Highlights on YouTube and confirm what we already knew - the ref was hopeless. Sending off: a 50/50 ball, they both went for. Free kick to Taunton at best. Their goal a direct result of that and piss poor defending, as George has admitted. Two players blatantly shoved into the hoardings: simply not good enough from the ref. Far more dangerous that Razzaq's red card. Our late attack ending in a foul not given: equally poor from the ref. A second half incident, not shown, had their defender with both hands on our player, right in front of the linesman, not given. All of the above blatantly obvious to everyone but the officials, which simply isn't good enough. Did we deserve to win though? Probably not, but did Covolan have to make any saves? Not really, so all in all a bit of a pisser.

The Taunton management and player bought the sending off with their reaction. We certainly were the better side overall.

They went back to their half time chat and missed him getting the red so convinced were they it was a 50 / 50. They assumed Razzaq had been subbed and walked down the tunnel injured...

How was that a sending off? Very poor refereeing.

Hopefully we can master the dark arts before the return match I have zero desire to see us sink to Hemel’s level. Disgraceful.

Hopefully we can master the dark arts before the return match I have zero desire to see us sink to Hemel’s level. Disgraceful. If that’s what it takes. We’ve always been too nice on the pitch, which is fine if you are enough better than the teams around you that those tactics don’t matter. But sometimes to compete you have to be as nasty as everyone else.
