Blimey. No lesser person than JPonComms agrees with me! I’m not that disagreeable typically am I Jdl?😅 I was just astonished that someone agreed with me!

So having a conversation last night during a spontaneous attempt at playing Golf I was chatting to my old man who works for a close family Member of Alan Manchett. Not sure if it’s been discussed before, but apparently he offered £2.3m for the club and wanted full control of who we hired and signed. The sticking point was Oliver Ash and Bill wanted control over who we sign or at least to give the thumbs up or down on them. Due to this sticking point the deal was not done, but it appears Mr Manchett is still interested in his original offer. So for fans it’s new ownership with more financial grunt but possibly more risk or stay as we are with stability but less money. I think I would prefer the excitement of more money and knowing Alan is a fan of the club, but I’m sure this forum would be split on the matter.

You would have thought it is easier to do a takeover out of season (whether you believe we are out of season or not).
I am not sure I want a club that is run at a loss. It just doesn’t sit right with me. It’s a community asset and should be safeguarded. I think I am happy with the sustainable model where we grow organically and if we have reached our level, then fair enough.

So he wasn’t buying full control or all the shares? If he wants to control signings he needs to buy the club outright.

Do you happen to know if the £2.3m was just for the club, or was it also for the ground? If both, it would be a bargain.

I guess that sticking point may not be such an issue with Bill taking a step back. However having one person in overall control of signings seems a bit risky to me.

The club must be 'worth' more than £2.3m (i.e what O&T have put into it and would like back), and O&T wouldn't be expecting an involvement in decision making if they's sold out completely. It would be interesting to know exactly what the deal was. Presumably majority shareholding for AM, with T&O still having an interest (athough not one with any clout, by the sound of it!). I can understand the owners wanting to stay involved, but would anyone realistically expect to sell most of a club and still have a say in how it's run? Given how unlikely it is that you'd be able to sell a club like ours at all, let alone get two-thirds of your money back, I'm surprised that they pulled out of this deal.

I remember the owners saying they would either sell the club outright, or accept a new investor but carry on running it.

The sticking point was Oliver Ash and Bill wanted control over who we sign or at least to give the thumbs up or down on them. Does that mean Oliver/Terry/Bill approved the signings Harry Wheeler (is that his name?) made?

I think them at experience made them want to have to a degree of control.
