Jesus! Reading all the doom and gloom on this forum is more depressing than watching The Stones last year. Possibly even more depressing than Brexit.
It's pre-season, and pretty much meaningless. Why not cheer up and give the team a few proper games before you start predicting how badly the season's going to go.

We have had a very ordinary pre- season so far. Writing it off as meaningless makes me feel a whole lot better.

And perhaps also remembering that Dagenham were below is in the table, in danger of going down - before we both changed managers...

Be good to see Peter Taylor. Still remember him in a Stones shirt at the Athletic Ground in the twilight of his illustrious career with Spurs and England. Shame he didn't come with JS2.

Noticed McClennan was a trialist for Bromley when they played us.

I cannot see Knight or Edwards featuring for us and neither were included for the game against Dagenham. Perhaps they will be in the development squad. Ryan Johnson looked good unless JS2 can find an even better centre back.

One thing that puzzles me is how we can stay 'full-time' (i.e. day time training), but reduce the budget.
Logically, if you're full-time, you expect to pay players enough so that they don't need to work part-time as well. In which case there must be a minimum possible wage bill (number of players times lowest possible full-time salary).
OK, so we are no longer paying out some of the silly money we were under The Clown, but I would guess our budget is probably even less than it was under Jay.
Which begs the obvious question - can you run a full-time squad on a restricted budget that's good enough to do well in the NS?
(Genuine question, not club bashing, being negative, etc, etc...)

I would expect we have a much reduced budget but key players such as Cole and George will be an exception. At the other end of the spectrum will be our academy/under 23 players who are looking for their chance and gaining experience. If we are in the top 4 come Xmas I expect the budget to be increased to try and get us over the line

Hopefully someone will switch off the revolving door, maybe see a more settled team and not eleven individuals running round like headless chickens ( my appologies to chickens)

COYS Its not pessimism mr Shamstone ,its realism as something doesn't sit right about our budget. Terry Casey said our budget would be 3 times that of any other club and Oliver Ash openly refuted that claim. Now as wonderful as our owners have been there is a world of difference between their claims which stinks of disharmony in the ranks. I think one or other of them will be happy of we stay in the South division because it is abundantly clear to all that we cannot,as yet, afford to compete in the National League. I think the budget has been deliberately set at a level to stop us going up and the only question I would like answered is which one of the owners has made that decision?
