So if we had offered him the same...........? All for moving on new players fresh start and all that but the odd legend around the place to remind us of better days cannot be a bad thing surely? If you based a squad on oldies that would be madness but the odd one or two can hardly break us! Oldboy this term "Legend" is used far too often an in fairness it was far too early in his lifetime to be calling Flisher a legend. He was very good in our leagues prior to his injury, after that injury he was never the same type of player he had lost a little bit of that something that made him special. Sadly he is no more than an ordinary player who has suffered lots of injuries, time will tell if he can last a whole season in the NLS I dont think he can but I would be happy if I was proved wrong. Time will tell. Such a pity that those who remember yesteryear with longing, actually believe that the good old days can be recaptured by digging up players who best years were long ago.
If JS/HH felt for a minute that Flish had something to offer the team today, they would have been after him like a shot.
Happily for MUFC they don't live in Dreamland and are busy building a team for the future rather than the past.
We all have great memories of AF, but that's what they are, memories, nothing more.

Bottom line is that Alex has had two serious knee injuies and struggled for fitness in his season with us at NL level Dartford have taken a gamble with him

On a sometimes strange message board, this strange discussion wins the award for strangeness.
Substitute strange with your own adjective of choice.
I'm not aware that Maidstone United must offer contracts to every ex player who becomes available. Is this a new rule?

When I started this thread I never for a moment expected the club to have offered him a deal to comeback nor any of our previous players, my post was to say I was genuinely pleased for him signing for Dartford and hopefully it works out for both parties with the exception of when we meet next season when I hope he has a stinker, Barney its ok to reminisce about past players but you are correct they are past players and we should remember them for what they did whilst at our fine club

Didn’t you want a new, fresh, hungry team To be fair, Flish is always hungry, but (I hope) we are aiming for better players than him. We have Les already and don’t need another club legend

Tbf, once upon a time Flish was easily good enough and had all the qualities that are needed today.
But that was then and this is now, we need to look forward to the future, not backwards to the past

But that was then and this is now, we need to look forward to the future, not backwards to the past Of course it’s time to look forward and get a new squad but it’s also hypocritical to say write off former players who still may have something to offer and then welcome JS2 Barnet old boys who are exactly that just with Barnet for JS2 and not for Stones. Is JS 2 just looking to the past? Of course he isn’t he’s getting the right blend of old and new players in the squad. Also at 68 years old and not having been at Stones for many many many years since before we were reformed you could argue that JS2s appointment is the ultimate in looking to the past! My goodness all I suggested was that if Flish is good enough for NLS at Darts I wish it could have been here and it’s like I was expecting Andy Woon to sign up for next season. Sheesh! I actually hope Flish scores a hat-trick against us now! (As long as we get three or four goals as well of course)

But that was then and this is now, we need to look forward to the future, not backwards to the past This is painful, but I must agree, Nick. To my mind, Flisher was on his way to the football league when he had that awful injury. When he came back he struggled for fitness and had lost that burst of pace he used to have. I remember his utterly woeful performance at Solihull away and how sad I felt at watching a real hero of the past getting booed by our supporters. I do think it is a gamble by Dartford but I really do wish Alex Flisher all the best because for all those Solihull type memories there are way more great memories such as Enfield away when he was majestic.

Many players are never the same after an injury and Flish is one of them... so too Loza .. it will also be interesting to see how Blair comes back as he was not the same for us after his injury. Personally I would have loved to see Flish back at the Stones - but only the Flish we admired and were in awe of as a player. He will always be a Stones legend. He may prove us all wrong at Dartford.

Blair's an interesting one. Came back into a struggling team so it's no wonder he didn't look the same player, but it also looked as if he was trying too hard at times when maybe he could have made more use of the players around him.
