Warren Barton. A full back who can play as a full back. Failing that i would not be opposed to jack doyle and Laurie Wilson coming back they helped shire up our shite defence. Wazza is 50 years old. Do you think he could still do a job for us? Perhaps Butler and Charlery would come out of retirement as well 50 yeah he could do better than some of the ones we had this season.

Whatever we bring in if we are building a team unit for the future we have to be thinking who could do a job not just in the N/S but in the National as well otherwise you will never get stability rebuilding year on year. There are ex players that could have been but that's all they are could have beens. Mills is the classic example although I don't blame any of them for sticking with part time and their day jobs

In our first season in the NL we had a back four roughly consisting of Driver Coyle Lokko Mills with a change of Twamasi for Driver! Mills was an academy player who had no NL Experience, Coyle was getting on and was 2nd choice in the Ryman prem, Lokko had one season with Welling the previous season who got relegated, Driver was great in the NLS but found wanting at NL level. The only pedigree we had was Twamasi, but look how well that defence worked compared to the next two seasons! It shows how balance and team work matter more than individual players. Let’s just hope we find that balance again.

I hate people who don't pay on bets they lose.

Have you watched that ponce play recently ,there is a reason the once mighty reds are now 6th in the table and it has nothing to do with money its to do with a succession of managers who cannot see how bad Smalling is. You could always partner him with Swane and look forward to the bostik league in 20/21.

This thread started with serious candidates and descended into players my age (Barton), long retired (Danny of Lye) and an overpaid Premier League has been!
Sweeney, Pigott, Lokko, A Wynter, Porter and I suspect Manny Parry all also all happy where they are and wouldn't come down to our level, even if we are full time.
Four mornings a week seems to be the sticking point for any former players coming back (even the released ones like Lewis) both those who if they are FT can be FT in NL, and those who dropped down to PT football., so it looks like it really will be all new players with Lewington, Embery and Justin................which may not be such a bad thing.

I'd still like to see what Nathan Paul could do in the National South.
Those of us who saw him in his heyday had no doubt that he was good enough for the National League.
It was a while ago, but it would be interesting.

Tom Mills, a player we have never been able to replace But also a player we don't know how would have fared in the last two seasons. It's easy to hanker after former players when they haven't had to weather the shit storm of the last two (and especially the last) seasons.

Yes you are correct, Acheamponge started the first few games along side Lokko, but was soon found out at NL level and Coyle came in! He had been good for Fleet in the NLS. Eventually we signed the Beast from D&R who was on the bench to start with as Coyle and Lokko were doing well. He was more of a starter the next season, but was again found wanting and left for Dulwich.

I would bring back Flisher. As injury prone as he is, the long throws on our skinny pitch caused problems for defences in every league we played in. Is he worth covering the cost of him leaving his job to train full time, possibly not! Is he the player he nearly became before his first major injury, I doubt it! One thing is for sure it would be a start at making the team popular with the fans again! It’s going to be very hard to warm to a team that is 90% new however well they play. Hopefully Flish blew JS2 away when he watched Margate, but probably not!! Other than Sweeney is there a single player not currently in the squad who has played under JS2 or HH and been a Maidstone player in the past 5 years? I can’t think if any! 16 or so new faces me thinks!
