I have a hunch that Palace will put out a half decent side hopefully no segregation It all depends on what the rest of Palaces pre season schedule is, if they are clearing off on a foreign tour to try and tap in overseas markets like most prem teams do nowadays then we might get an x1 side where it's mainly youth tram with a couple of first team, if not then we'd probably get close to the first team but maybe wholesale changes at halftime with the odd big name player missing. I remember a few years back Spurs took a youth team to Dartford, whilst the Darts advertised as the youth team, they were surprised by the amount of Spurs fans who turned up as the first team were on tour in south Africa and not many fans went, so for us same as above, if palace are away for there pre season in foreign climates then we might have a fair few of their fans at the Gallagher, which wouldn't be a bad thing more fans means more income for the team.

As has been said, Palace fly out a few days after this game.

I don't go back to the 70s, but I remember a Man City friendly in the 80s (they 'took' the shed, if I remember correctly...). That might sound good to newbies, but it was around the time of the Gills/Man City play-offs saga, so I guess they were in the 3rd division (League 1) then? Friendly in the 80s around the time of a game in 1999.

I've seen Palace play Bromley twice in the past 3 seasons in Friendlies, and it really is a mixed bag they put out usually. They rotated their entire starting 11 at half time for both games if I remember correctly and, having dug out the program from 2015, it lists Bamford, McCarthy, Cabaye, Gayle, Puncheon, Bolasie, Murray, Zaha, McArthur, Ward, Delaney and Hangeland in their squad and most of those played, but there were a lot of youth team players who made an appearance but werent in the program. We have to remember now though that this is a much better, much more valuable Palace squad and you'd doubt they'd risk a 30m striker or a big, upcoming signing. You'd also consider that those playing international qualifiers would be given extended time off and then link up with the team on the overseas tour.

Is there any point even going to this?
Will it be all ticket?
Will Crystal Palace bring an allocation of fans?
Will there be load of bang-wagoner plastics plus our cringeworthy 2CW's making it almost impossible for me to enjoy the game?
Why can't we play concord rangers or welling?

The Manchester City match took place on the 20th April 1983 and was Kenny Hills testimonial match.A narrow victory for a pretty much full strength City side who less than a month later were famously relegated from the top division by Luton(Raddy Antic/David pleat dancing on the pitch).A vague recollection i have of the match at London Road though was a brief substitute performance for Man City by a guest player who might have helped in setting the fixture up.I could be wrong, but it might have been Lashings very own David Folb?

Cute, you think there's more than 3 big London clubs 😉 Certainly bigger clubs than West Ham, I know, for instance there's Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal.....you know, the 3 sides I'm on about

It was indeed - he came on as a sub near the end and mysteriously managed to score a goal. I've never really understood the point of friendlies, but that one took the biscuit - the whole thing arranged (by Folb), just so he could fullfil some adolescent dream. I've probably got my dates/times completely screwed again, but maybe this was around the time of the Kent Invicta (?) rugby league team, which shared London Road and, I think, was organised by Folb?

Yeah, yeah, facts schmacts - when (if) you get to my age, you'll find that there isn't that much difference between 30 years ago and 20 years ago...

The game versus Manchester City was arranged by a couple of directors of the club with links to City, David Folb had nothing to do with arranging the game just a substantial donation to Kenny Hills testimonial fund to appear as a late substitute.

Now there's an idea for the directors to consider - a guest appearance in a friendly by local businessmen with a few bob to spare, in return for a contribution to the new town-end stand (for when it gets built).

From the official site:
Maidstone United’s prestigious friendly against Crystal Palace on Saturday 15 July will be all-ticket.
The Premier League side are bringing their first team to town, as the Stones celebrate five years at the Gallagher Stadium.
Sales times will be announced this week and supporters who’ve purchased a season ticket or fan club membership for the 2017/18 will have priority, ahead of the general sale.
The matches against Barnet (8 July) and Southend U21s (29 July) will be pay on the day.
Admission prices for the three pre-season friendlies are as follows:
Barnet Saturday 8 July
Adults: £10.00* Concessions (65+/students with valid ID): £8.00 Youth (11 to 16 year olds): £5.00 Junior (Under 11): Free
* all paying adults can exchange their entrance ticket for one free drink (from a selected range) in the Spitfire Lounge and outside bars.
Crystal Palace Saturday 15 July
Adults: £15.00 Concessions (65+/students with valid ID): £12.00 Youth (11 to 16 year olds): £7.00 Junior (Under 11): £2.00
Southend United U21s Saturday 29 July
Adults: £5.00 Concessions (65+/students with valid ID): £3.00 Youth (11 to 16 year olds): £2.00 Junior (Under 11): Free
Sensible pricing in my opinion and a free drink at the Barnet game, not really surprised Palace is all ticket, hope it sells out.

As it's a friendly, can we drink on the terraces/stands?
