Read my palace v maidstone thread and wake up Why start a new thread? I agree with the sentiment at the end. I was told it was a first team coming and so thought it would be. Anyway, I'm still going to meet my mates, have a few beers and watch the Stones.

Obviously down to the change of manager and very disappointing. Knowing our club, there's no way we would have advertised it as 'First Team Game' and charged £15 if we knew the U-23 team was being sent. Our owners have more integrity than that and will no doubt feel let down. I am obviously going to watch the Stones and don't mind too much, but there will be a lot of disappointed younger supporters who, understandably given the advertising, will have been looking forward to seeing players they may have seen on the TV or in their sticker book.
Worst thing is that with all the money and resources they currently have, Palace could have managed the whole situation better. Poor old Basingstoke now have no game and their pre season disrupted. If it wasn't such an administrative headache i'd say go tell Palace to stick there U-23 team and invite Basingstoke to the Gallagher on Saturday instead!
You've also got to laugh that Frank De Boer also thinks him coming with the team is a good idea also! Absolutely clueless about how people will feel towards him! All this from a club that has spent 70 of the last 90 years in the Championship or League 1 and were averaging 15,000 five years ago when the Gallagher opened! Sad to see a team who aren't really big time behaving with such little regard for other clubs.

I think £15 is a ridiculous price for this fixture anyway. All pre season fixtures should be reduced in price as they are normally boring as f##k. I have just played £20 to watch chelsea v arsenal at wembley.

Quelle surprise
I shall follow how we do against some U23 unknowns as opposed to some Prem unknowns, while I am down in Bristol. Actually, as it's a stag do and I never go drinking I suspect I will be incapable of following anything by 3pm anyway.

Crystal Palace under 23 team pulled out of Basingstoke friendly on Tuesday, 2 days before it was announced they'd be playing the stones, at least Basingstoke managed to arrange another friendly.

Well, I was happily putting up a fence instead of forking out £15 to watch a load of players I've never heard of.
But now I discover I wasn't - I was actually in Aldi instead of forking out £15 to watch a load of players I'd never heard of...

palace had some quality u23s out there yesterday, a quick google would show there was some very well regarded youngsters on display. We actually put up a decent performance given they are in daily and we are just a week or so back. Still took the evens from the bookie for a palace win so nice free day out all included for me with pies..

The obvious difference (apart from age) was the chunkiness of our players compared to the lithe callow progeny of Palace. Is that a reflection of what is available at our level, or what is required to survive In this league? I found myself wondering how we would fare if it was possible to swap our squad for their under 23s.

I found myself wondering how we would fare if it was possible to swap our squad for their under 23s. My thoughts when first seeing them were that they came from the land of the giants. I doubt there was one of them under 6'2, and physically very strong for a U23 side. Certainly not intimidated by the physicality of our experienced players.
