To prevent trouble.

Yes, because bringing forward the kick off time to a pre-season friendly is bound to prevent trouble. This is the ultimate high risk game so the hooligans must be desperate to find a way around it.

It only gives everyone 4 hours drinking time now in society rooms instead of 6.😱

I'm not the world's biggest palace fan, it's true - but it's 'an earner' for the club...so i'm prepared to be charitable!

Palace will likely bring their youth team, so its nothing to get excited about...

Will this be segregated? I think it should be, palace will bring a fair few fans id imagine. It's only a friendly!...& surely our visitors on that day are not exactly unpopular with our more vocal younger fans? - surely it's more likely end up as one big love-in...

I have a hunch that Palace will put out a half decent side hopefully no segregation

With the stigma a lot of league teams have about 3G causing injuries i really cant see them risking first teamers.
If someone like Benteke got injuried on that pitch we'd never hear the end of it in the press.

If 3g really was an injury risk we'd have loads of injuries. But this last season seems to have been pretty light on injuries, certainly no worse than any similar clubs playing on mud.
It would be nice if there were some stats on this, then we could finally put this silly bias to bed.

I don't go back to the 70s, but I remember a Man City friendly in the 80s (they 'took' the shed, if I remember correctly...).
That might sound good to newbies, but it was around the time of the Gills/Man City play-offs saga, so I guess they were in the 3rd division (League 1) then?

If someone like Benteke got injuried on that pitch we'd never hear the end of it in the press. Most prem teams have training facilities with 3g type pitches anyway which there players do use a fair bit. The problem is everyone has still got their head in the sand and think of them horrid pitches at Luton, Oldham and QPR from back in the 80s where 3g is nothing like that.
